Arrival Story: Crystal was brought in to the Humane Society by her owners. They had another dog that was kind of beating up on her, and hadn't really been told how deaf she actually was. I got the sense that they just weren't prepared to do the work to train her. My girlfriend who works at the shelter called me and said "guess what? There is a double dapple longhaired dachshund puppy here that just came in" I surprised her by saying "go put a hold on her RIGHT NOW! I want her!" She had to find out where her paperwork was and called me back to tell me we had our hold. After she was spayed, we brought her home and now she's ours!
Now, to talk to the roommate! There was a bit of confusion because at first she thought I was talking about a BOXER but once we figured that out, she was totally fine.
Crystal came home with us for one night, but then had to go back to the shelter the next night to go for her spay in the morning. I spent most of the first day snuggling with her on the sofa, she's really lovey and very sweet. I was a nervous wreck after dropping her off that night, but knew that she was in good hands.
She went for her spay and did great, we picked her up and did the adoption paperwork. She has ONE stitch only outside and isn't even licking it or anything. Her little pink shaved belly is so cute!
She's doing AWESOME on potty training. The only accidents have been mommy's fault-not getting her out quite quick enough. I'm pointing at the ground as her potty sign, then doing a little happy dance for her when she goes. For the time being, she's sleeping in bed with us, but will soon be crate trained and will sleep in her crate at night. My boss also OK'ed her coming to work with me! I got a large shallow cardboard box and she's got her crate, her bed and lots of toys and things to chew on in there. Once she has all her shots, my girlfriend will be able to take her to work with her with her at the shelter and she'll get really well socialized.
Oh also, she weighs about 9 pounds now at 3.5 months, so she'll most likely end up being bigger than Joey Schnitz-maybe 15-18#?

Bio: She's really funny, she will be good and get into her bed at night, but every morning we wake up with her in OUR bed, sleeping right between us!

Forums Motto: Huh? What rug? I can't heeeear you...
