Arrival Story:
Well, Koga's mother was owned by a man that went to jail when she was near the end of her pregnancy. A friend of her owner went over to get her as soon as he found out no one was taking care of her. Koga and his mother and 7 siblings were found covered in raw sewage under the owner's trailer after the bathroom pipes busted. Koga and his siblings were only about a week old when they were rescued from their horrid conditions. 3 weeks after the rescue... I moved to a new neighborhood with a new friend. We were on the animal subject and I mentioned my old chow and shepard dog and she pointed out a house that had shepard puppies. She also said they were looking to give them away. So after thinking about it, I asked her to go to the house with me to look at them later that day since she knew the people. They brought out a pup named Bullet for me to see. I told them I would make arrangements to take him when he was weaned. Well one week later when I was told the pups were eating puppy food, I returned to get Bullet. However, this time I got to come inside and meet the mom dog and all the pups. It was apparent the mom wasn't fullblooded, and found that she was mixed with black mouth curr. And they didn't know what the father was. But they were all happy, healthy pups, and that's all I cared about. I was playing with Bullet and getting all the info I could about him and the litter when I noticed one of the pups starting to chew one a wire under the tv shelf. I got up and directed the pup back to playing with its siblings before sitting back down. However, I began watching this pup and saw how aggressively he was playing with another. I began asking about him and found he was named Demon, was the biggest and most aggressive puppy. And as I called him over, he began attacking my shoe rather fiercly. I picked him up and cuddled him, but that won me a rather long scrape of his needly teeth against my arm as he struggled to get away. I know it may be strange to have a desire to own a five week old pup that just drew first blood from you, but that's what happened. I made my decision there, and was delighted to find he was not claimed. I took Demon home, and so began the long process of taming that fierce little pup that is now my loving Koga.

Koga was very aggresive from the moment I met him. And not just play aggresive, either. If you picked him up, he'd bare his teeth and try to bite you every time. He even managed to bite quite a few people in the face, especially me. He hated to be petted, corrected, and would often charge me and other people and animals with very little provocation. However, despite his out right viciousness in his early puppyhood, he was very intelligent and trainable. So I decided to give us both a challenge and also harness all that agression. I trained him in japanese. After Koga learned sit, down, stay, and leave it, he began also biting down on something and letting go as basic training as well. This laid the early on foundation for strict personal protection training. By four months, Koga was completely reliable with 13 different commands, including bite, hold and release. And I began realizing he was calming a little and not so aggresive, except for when there were strangers near me or when we were in the middle of a bite and hold excercise.
