Arrival Story:
I lost my best friend (canine), Sadie, in January of 2011. It took me over a year to be ready for my new best friend. Other people in my office were getting ready to adopt and I got the urge to get another dog. I wanted to rescue. I really wanted another female black lab and was looking at ARF (lots of rescued puppies). Saw Goob's picture and thought he was adorable but didn't want a male. I found a couple of dogs I was interested and applied. Got approved and met one of the dogs I was interested but she was tiny and I wanted a big dog. They suggested that I go see "Goose". I'm a people pleaser and didn't want to say no so I went to see him. He was cute. 5 months old and huge! He was being fostered in a house with 4 other dogs. I played with him a bit and then went home. I started to think with his size that he might be past the cute puppy stage that most people are looking for and didn't want him to have to wait too much longer for his forever home (his brother had just been adopted). So, I asked if I could take him home for an overnight and that was it! He was mine. Drove me crazy, still drives me crazy, but he is the smartest dog I've ever met - a great problem solver. He has definitely changed my life!

Bio:
Goober was born while in ARF. His mother was from Northern Ontario. She was picked up by ARF because she was pregnant. ARF picks up females who are pregnant so they can save the puppies. Then they spay the female and return her to her original owner (if that is what makes the most sense). They can't afford to fix their dogs and often the puppies end up being abandoned or worse. ARF is a great organization!

Forums Motto:
I'll do it once - don't expect it twice!

Goob's best friend was Lexi, my sister's dog (another whole story, there) but Lexi had really bad allergies. We kept her comfortable and she enjoyed a great life for 2 1/2 years but ended up with lymphoma and we had to let her go at the beginning of August. Goober misses her tremendously. He needs a new little sister... working on it!
