"Yummmmm - dis iz gweat shtuff!", Zaney mumbles as he eats his fresh cooked rice. We got it for free! Can you believe that? The 'Rice Fairy' stopped at our house night and sprinkled some on the bed for us!

Mom noticed the rice kernels, (there were about 10), when she was making the bed this morning. She was thrilled: FREE FOOD, right? So, she collected the kernels, (from MY SPOT on the bed - the Rice Fairy only loves ME!), boiled some water, and made us breakfast!

Mom KNEW this couldnt be good. She collected them in a plastic Tupperware and took me out to do my business. She kept my poopies too, which she doesnt make a habit of doing. BOL! We came in from outside, and Mom just sat in front of the computer staring at the blank screen. She knew she was going to freak out at what she would find out when she looked this up. And, she did.

Mom called the vet and they said that is probably the case. She took the 'WORMS' and my poop sample to the vet. (Mom asked HOW you get them, and they said it depends on the kind.) She sat and waited at the vet while they examined them under the microscope. WELL - they were too hard for them to determine what kind they were, which meant they cant be sure how I got them. The doc said dogs usually get them from having and getting bitten by fleas, which I certainly DO NOT have! (Mom is always checking my hair! She even put me in the tub and did an extra hair check this morning to be sure! She went thru fleas with Sun, and it was NOT pretty!) Other ways dogs can get tapeworms are ingesting a flea, or rodent poop that has fleas. That is probably how I got it.

If you remember, I just had a worm called Eimeria a few weeks ago. I was treated for it, and had a negative stool sample result! After that, mom was so paranoid about me eating anything on the ground! She became neurotic - and even nasty - to me whenever I would sniff the ground! She always thought I would eat infected rodent poop - and that I would get worms again! And JUST THAT happened! But, she finally realized that she cannot possibly control what I eat out there, no matter what she does.

Mom had to give me a dewormer called Drontal. (The vet wanted mom to give that to me when she first got me. She did, but I vomited shortly after taking it.) This time, its been about 2 hours since I took it, and I seem fine. Keeping paws crossed!

So.... thats the story about the RICE FAIRY! Hope she doesnt come to any of your houses!! LOL!

HUGS to all my pals!

OH NO!!! We've nevfur had wormies, either. But we do like to scan the ground fur goodies! Sometimes mommy threatens to put soft muzzles on us, just so we don't eat anything bad. But daddy won't let her.

I have had the Rice Fairy visit me! Yep, sure have but they are easy to get rid of - vet was 100% certain I ate a flea - didn't mean i had fleas just meant i found one and ate it. At the vet I got a shot of a dewormer called Droncit and I was worm free the next morning and they have never been back.

Good Luck Zane!

Yep, we've had the 'Rice Fairy' visit us twice. Ma was personally insulted 'cause "MY dogs don't have worms!" Bol, it happens. We get squirrels and rabbits in the yard and go for walks around a big field. Lots of cat and wild animal poo out there, yum! Dogs are made to eat gross stuff so Ma just lives with it :)

Whewww.... I am so thankful that I am not the only one who's had a visit from the Rice Fairy!

Mom told the vet that we live in a NICE apartment complex!! How can I have had worms TWO times? The doc said that fleas and rodents dont discriminate! LOL!

I cant help it: I love rodent poop! I know, its nasty. But I just cant help myself!

Last night was horrendous for mom! I was OFF THE WALL from the Drontal - doing zoomies around the house before bed and seriously hyped up! Mom tried taking me to bed, but I could not lay still. I would get up, look at her, she would yell, and I'd lay back down. That continued for about 30 minutes. Then, she thought she would just sleep on the sofa, cuz I seemed much more comfortable out in the LR. She got her pillow and blankie and tried getting comfy on the couch. Meanwhile, I was going to the sliding glass doors, pushing back the blinds, and barking at nothing! I continued this for another 30 minutes! So, back to bed we went. I kept getting up and staring at mom... She couldnt take it anymore! So, out to the living room she took me, got out the last 2 sections of my gate so she could close me in there, and said GOODNIGHT! She went back to bed. I didnt even put up much of a stink - I just barked just a few times and then quieted down. This was around 2 am. Mom doesnt remember what time it was when she got up again to check on me. Probably around 4am. She let me out and took me back on the bed with her. Finally, I SLEPT! She had to wake me up this morning! BOL!

I do think there is some correlation between my itchiness and the wormies. Not only do my feet itch, but my whole body seemed to. The minute we'd get out of bed in the mornings, I would itch my belly, my back and my feet. This morning, however, I didnt do that. I havent been at my feet once either! They are looking much better. Although it only takes one good 'licking and chewing' session to get em all red again.

OMD! Maggots? I suppose anything is possible, but I'm just glad I dont have those! Mom was grossed out enuf with the rice-like things!

She ALWAYS checks my poop, but hasnt seen anything in it - today nor in the past. The doc did say mom may see the wormies in my poop the next few days.. GROSS!

Mom put a separate top sheet down where I sleep on our bed. But, of course, she woke up and found me snuggled up next to her cuz I didnt want to be on a SEPARATE SHEET!

Thankfully, the Rice Fairy went to someone elses house last night! Watch out, pals!

(I think I will be the Rice Fairy for Halloween! BOL!)

Hugs and thanks for all your input!

By the way, Mom is going to make SURE I get the Drontal every 6 months! She will have to suck it up and deal with my hyperness and restlessness, but it will be worth it!

Any of you get hyped on it?

Sorry about your visit from that nasty rice fairy. Haven't had a visit, but my Mom knows about the fairy and doesn't like it! It is quick to get well from the rice fairy - just be careful what you put in that precious mouth of yours!

Had a visit from the rice fairy when I was a baby. How dare the rice fair bother a puppy and a cute one at that!

Know you are on your way to feeling better already.

Boy I sure hope your V-E-T gets rid of those things and if he can't.......GO FISHING!!!

You can also get them from cat doodies, especially outdoor kitties. ;)

Really I hope they are gone fast and it's not a harsh medicine, usually one dose of the med from the vet takes care of them. xoxo
