Arrival Story: My husband and I had, that day, given our dog "Annie" her heavenly wings. Annie was 20 years old, a mix breed, and such a part of our lives that I couldn't face going home to see her empty place. Annie had lived a good long life and she, I feel, was ready to run in heaven. I wanted to be reminded of happier times and didn't want to dwell on her final days with us so, despite my husband's vote of confidence, I drove to a near-by rescue shelter and looked over the puppies.
My husband was in tears, a huge man brought to his lowest, and his only request was that whatever puppy I picked would have to lick his face. Well, there was this black fur-ball with a wagging tail, bright button eyes and a pink tongue that made a lolly-pop of my husband's nose. It was the cutest thing and of course, he named this GIRL dog, 'george.' I can't call her that in public, she's just too adorable.
We took puppy Georgie with us everywhere to get her socialized (and boy is she ever social). She even went on a 1,400 mile round trip to New Mexico with us when she was only 3 months old. She loved it and has enjoyed being in the car ever since. I always take her with me when I go on a long trip, she's good company, a good protector and a heck of a conversationalist.
Georgie reminds us every day what the life of dog should be and helped us through the tough days of grieving. I think Annie would have approved, she never would have wanted us to be so sad. Georgie is not Annie but she's a wonderful dog in her own right. She's smart, extremely friendly and loves to be with us. We are the lucky ones to have found her.
Georgie shares the house with a zoo full of cats.
