DAY 84, Friday, 6/1/12

Tony’s sister Ro called this morning. After chatting with her, Tony said, “Biscuit, Ro sends her love.” Then, he added, “Oh, yeah, she said to say hi to you too, Bob”—to which Bob replied, “Ah, it has always been my life’s ambition to be a supreme afterthought.” I love Bob—I truly do—but sometimes he’s just plain weird.

I was so good today that I almost got whiplash from trying to pat myself on the back. Bob and Tony hired someone to come in and clean the carpets. (Apparently, SOME-BOD-Y has been peeing on the carpet. I told Bob he should get some Depends!) So, this guy comes to clean the carpets, and even though he left the front door open while he was setting up, I didn’t run out once. Then, when Bob and I got ready to leave so that the guy could do his work, I ran down the stairs, but I didn’t run away. Oh, yeah, I did run around a bit, but I didn’t go far, and when Bob called me, I ran right back to him.

We had to vacate the apartment for several hours to let the carpets dry, so Bob and I went to the mall to get out of the heat. This was my first time in the mall, and I was the center of attention. We walked the full length of the mall and back, and everybody wanted to stop and pet me. Of course, I wore my Service Dog vest, and nobody even questioned my being in the mall, not even the security guard we passed along the way. We didn’t go inside any of the stores, but Bob did order a smoothie from one of the stands in the food court. I sat on the floor at the counter and didn’t budge, not even when other people came up to the counter to get their hot food. Bob was very proud of me.

Tony and Bob often get together with their buddies for happy hour at the Green Door on Fridays, so Bob took me there from the mall. Once again, everyone stared, but no one questioned my being there. I like going out with Bob.

Did you see the new picture of me on my home page, the one with me in the graduation cap? Yeah, Bob and I graduated from the Intermediate Obedience Class last night. I thought the trainer should have given Bob a cap with a tassel too since the class was really to train him, but I guess she didn’t think he performed well enough. Oh, well, maybe next time.

Heather from Holly Hounds came by to see me today. We had a grand time playing until she decided it was time for me to get a bath. I resisted at first, but I finally gave in. After she left, I noticed that the apartment sure smells a lot better. Bob and Tony must have gotten baths today too.

Tony ordered me a whole bunch of NutriDent treats, but when we opened the bag, they smelled like rotten turnips, so Tony contacted the company he ordered them from, and they said they would replace them. I sure hope so ‘cuz I am desperate for something to chew on.

Wow! I was notified today that my diary has been selected as a Dogster Daily Pick again! This is the third time now. Bob says he’s worried that I’ll get a big ego. Yeah, like Bob leaves any room in this apartment for another big ego. Right!

I chewed up another rope toy today, and Tony threw it in the trash can. Unfortunately, he didn’t give me something else to chew on, so I decided to chew on my plastic water bowl. Needless to say, Bob had to go out and buy me a new metal one—after he finished mopping up the floor. Honestly, I don’t know what Bob would do with all of that spare time if he didn’t have me around to keep him entertained.

DAY 80, Monday, 5/28/12 (Memorial Day)

Today was what they call Memorial Day, when the humans remember all the other humans who died in the service of their country. I hope some of them will stop to remember the canines who sacrificed too.

There was not much excitement today, but it was nice having Tony home all day. When is the next holiday?

The day was pretty laid back up until evening. Tony and Bob went to my buddy Victor’s house for a cookout, but they left me home. Christine (who works with Tony) and her two daughters were there, and they kept asking about me until Bob had to come home and get me. Christine and her daughters really seemed to enjoy rubbing my belly, so I let them do it—lots! There were other people at the party too, and I let all of them have a turn at petting me, but Christine and her daughters were the best. I think I’ll adopt them.

Apparently, the humans have what they call holidays, and because of one of these holidays, Tony gets to stay home from work for three whole days. Yipee! That means I have three whole days to get him wrapped around my little paws the way I have Bob wrapped up. Life is sweet!

I think Bob is a bit upset with me. Ya see, I was outside running in circles on my 25-foot leash. Usually, I can gauge how far I can run, but this one time I went a bit too far. Well, it just so happens that at that very exact moment, Bob had raised up on one leg to keep from getting tangled up in the leash, and the force of my jump pulled him head over heels and flat onto the ground. I thought it was kinda funny, but he was not amused.

Roger, our neighbor, came by this evening with Honeybee, the little Chihuahua. We had a grand time playing, and I was a perfect little gentleman. Well…maybe not perfect, but at least I didn’t get us arrested.

Yeah, I know…there was no diary entry yesterday. Of course, I never lack for something to say, but I have to rely on Bob to type up my words, and sometimes he’s just…well…you know.

Anyway, we had another good training session last night. I was really good at going to my assigned spot on command and even staying there until Bob called me. Of course, there were treats involved, so that pretty much sealed the deal.

Bob borrowed a special collar from the trainer, Wendy. I don’t really like it ‘cuz it goes over my snout and just annoys the bejeebies out of me. It’s supposed to keep me from bolting when Bob and I are out walking. Today, I tried to do a better job of heeling so Bob won’t put that contraption on me.

Peee-yewwww! It sure does smell in here. I think Bob needs a bath. Or maybe it’s Tony. Or maybe it’s…. Nah. Gotta be one of them.
