Pearl is getting there!
She knows sit, and she knows watch me, but for some reason, down is really not coming. She can be a little slow to learn sometimes, but she's been through so much that I can hardly blame her.
She's still really touchy about her feet and elbows when she's lying down. She'll growl and snap if I disturb her when she's napping.
She still barks. Some days it's a lot, some days she's really quiet. She also talks a lot, BOL!
Winnie Mae and Pearl are great friends though. Pearl never wants to be away from her!
A few weeks ago we took the girls to the groomer at 9:20 and picked them up at four. Pearl was so mad at me. It was a setback in her training. Now we're back to where we were before the groomer, and before I left town without her (she stayed with my brothers and my aunt and uncle).
She sleeps on my bed with Winnie :D TWO little warm fuzzies on my feet!

Pearl's bad habits are not only annoying now, they are becoming stressful.
Thankfully, today she seemed to calm down a bit, but yesterday was a nightmare.
At this point, I'm just trusting that God dropped her on our doorstep (figuratively) for a reason, so I'm going to continue praying hard that He will give us the strength to keep going!
Tell ya what though, He is very good at humbling us. Just when I started to think I had this dog training thing down, He sent me a puppy with separation anxiety, no patience, zero tolerance, a nasty barking habit, phsycological hangups, and the tendency to bully my little brother.
The Proverbs, "Trust in the Lord with all of your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding, but in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight. Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and shun evil," (Proverbs 3:5-7) comes to mind.

Pearl Irene came to live with me on Sunday, March 20th, 2011. She has been through at least five homes in her short little life, and that has affected her.
Up until today, when I tried to train her to "wait" for her food, or "sit" for it, she would just bark at me and get frustrated with me; she wouldn't try to figure out what I was asking for. I clicked/treated her on the rare occasions that she actually did sit, but nothing "clicked" (pardon the pun).
But today, while I was chopping up chicken for my mom, the girls came to beg for a bite. And guess what? Pearl finally gave up begging, and SAT DOWN!!!!! After twenty or so repetitions, she got it!
She still gets a little frustrated trying to remember that the verbal "sit" means "set your bottom down on the ground just so". But considering that this is her first day, she's doing great!
Love you, little Muppet!
