It's been a long time since my person and I put an entry here. We've had an exciting time, not all good. The good-I discovered big deep swimming pools and I love them! Our neighbor has one and by the third time, I walked down the steps, swam to one end of the pool and back and went right to the steps and walked out. It's the best thing every invented. My person found out that in September some of the pools near St. Louis are having doggie swim day, and she's going to try and take me so I can swim with other dogs.
The bad-I almost died and my person still doesn't know what made me sick. I had some diarrhea one day, but it was gone the next day and my girls came up and played with me. I ate, didn't have diarrhea, and just had a great time. That night I played with my person after we went to bed, and I got down (I do that if I'm getting hot) and she went to sleep. Well, during the night I got really sick and vomited a few times and had bad, bloody diarrhea. When my person got up and found it we were off to the vet. He said I needed a barium study and fluids because I was pretty badly dehydrated. My person left me, and even though I was sick, I was really sad, my person said.
She called the vet several times, and the vet tech said I was doing good. My person got to get me the next afternoon. They said I had been really good and was a really sweet dog. My person took me home and had to give me a antinausea pill once a day, a stomach pill once a day, and two different antibiotics twice a day. Hooray for peanut butter! She also had to feed me four times a day. She fixed me chicken with white rice and ground round with rice, which I thought was some pretty good eating. She watched me like a hawk and wasn't much fun, but she did take me on rides since she didn't want me around kids or dogs. I think she really loves me since she cried a little bit when I was sick and told me not to die on her.
I've been feeling a lot better, even with this heat, but my person limits my time outdoors and told me we really weren't going to walk in this heat, not after me being sick. We're really close now, and I don't like to stay outside long without my person. My person even said I could get on the leather sofa, and it's really fun sitting together because there's so much room. I take 2/3rds and she gets the rest. I can stretch out and snooze and even roll on my back and sleep and have so much room. When I want to cuddle I just turn around and put my head in my person's lap. We're a great team together, and my person decided I better stay on my comfort food a while longer. I didn't like being sick, but I sure like the good eating.

I've had to take a break on my diary. My person and I had so much going on. We're having a generator installed, and my person's friend that's installing the generator is also my best friend. I run and tell my person if I see him, and she opens the door, and I run to him like a bullet. He calls me his girlfriend and let's me give him lots of kisses and raise up on him. I just can't leave him alone because he knows everything that makes a dog happy. I'm really so happy when I see him.
People also came and put in something called a gas line (My person says I'll be happy next winter). I had to check them out and make sure they knew what they were doing. They dug a big hole and I would like to have dug with them, but my person said absolutely not.
We also had a yard sale and all my little kids came up. I actually did great with my little girl and my little boy (but not the baby boys), and I even got to stay outside during the yard sale. Several people came up to my person and asked about me and wanted to pet me. She said ok and I got lots of pets from new people.
Then, right after the yard sale, I did something that my person wasn't real happy about. I found a nest of baby rabbits in the iris bed, and rabbits went everywhere. Well, I grabbed one and took off with my new playtoy which is better than even a mole. My person tried nice "bring it here talk", but I know her and knew she would take it away from me. She was a scientist and knew that rabbits die quickly from shock and knew my "toy" had already died, even though I have a soft mouth. She gave up on getting it from me and was trying to rescue the others even though she knew they would die. She was putting them in a wheelbarrow when a mockingbird swooped down and got one. Then I shot in and got another, and she just gave up. My person said to please not eat them, but I tried one and it was good. She made me stay out, though, because she said I might throw up. I didn't though. She wasn't real happy, but she said that's what you get when you have a hunting dog.
We did make up, but that night she brushed my teeth extra good before we went to bed. She's really a picky person.
We've been going for lots of rides and walking at our city park which I just love. She said we couldn't walk at St. Joe State Park until after a freeze (What's that?) because it was a bad tick year. I got 8 last walk there, but my person found them all. Even though I'm on Front Line Plus she doesn't like them on me. It's ok since I like the city park too. We even went down to my little kid's house, which was fun, but on the way back I got really restless and my person had to find me a place to poop. That was the problem; I went right to sleep in the car after that. She's pretty smart about that stuff.
Today we're not doing much. My person thinks she might have food poisoning, so we got up at 5 with my person running to the bathroom. We've been in and out of bed and now we're computing, she's computing, I'm under the desk supervising. She told me she thinks she's feeling better and maybe we can do something tomorrow. I hope it's another ride, as I really like going in the car, and I think she said something about my swimming pool. Even when life's bad, it's not too bad.

We got up this morning and it wasn't raining so my person took her coffee out on the deck and I played in the yard, barking at this and that and running and having a good time. I was down by the fence checking out the neighborhood when two big animals I thought were big dogs came running beside our yard. I started to bark and thought, what are these things? Being a dog with good sense I ran to my person really fast, using my something's wrong bark. She jumped up and I got behind her, and she said "Sara, those are deer"! Well, something new, and I'm not certain I like them. They were pretty big and ran really fast.
My person decided to get the grass out of a new flower bed she had made, and I decided to help her. It's full of new daylillies that may not live to be old flowers. I need to be close to my person, so I layed right on the flowers. She finally gave up for a while, so I chased a squirrel and rolled in the mulch and some other good dog stuff. Even though it was cloudy and the wind was blowing I got pretty hot, and my person took me in the air conditioning and told me to rest and cool off. She went back out and I got in my desk cave.
Later she came and got me, and I ran around a lot and checked her work. She felt kind of bad about banning me and offered me a ride. That's all I needed to hear; I ran to the car and jumped in. We drove to a WalMart and looked at landscaping blocks (boring!) and then she went to Dairy Queen and got a chicken basket. I know Dairy Queen and was really excited wanting my ice cream, and my person got ice cream for me. When we got home she gave me my Dairy Queen and I ate it slowly and dainty like I always do.
When she started her meal, I watched for a little chicken to fall and gave her my most pitiful look. That was my downfall; she gave me two chicken strips. I think chicken and ice cream maybe don't mix. We went outside, and I ran all over the yard looking for rabbits and squirrels. All at once I stopped and upchucked my food. My person ran out and checked me and told me it was her fault. I felt a lot better after I threw up, but she was pretty worried. She cleaned up after me and took me and wiped my face and made me lie down a while, but I was ok.
She said from now on I have to rest after I eat and not run crazy. She's a little worried, but she had also switched me to a new organic food, and she thought it was maybe too rich.
She said no matter how pitiful I look that's not going to happen again. I guess she's really serious because I haven't been able to get one treat out of her tonight. I'm sticking really close to her as I know she's a little upset because a big tornado (I don't know what that is) hit Joplin, Missouri, and killed and hurt people (and probably dogs). She told me that sometimes she thought it might be nice to just be a pampered dog who doesn't worry about tomorrow. I don't know what that means either, but I gave her some licks and she gave me lots of hugs. It's nice to have a person as my pal.

My person and I went out pretty early this morning. Sure enough, my person was right-there was another mole working where I had caught my first mole. My nose stopped right where the mole was. My person now believes I do smell moles. She stomped down the runs and waited while I investigated the yard. It was no time before she saw the ground move, but I came back to help and the mole stopped. We went inside and she had coffee and I had some dog food and we went back out. The ground was torn back up. She stomped the ground down and waited for the mole to move, and it did, but I came back and got too excited.
After the third time I went too fast she took me in, but I could see her out by my mole place and I barked for her to come get me. She ignored me!! A little later the mole moved and my person went quick with her spade and popped out a big, fat mole. She wacked it quick with the spade and killed it, but she thought I should be rewarded so she left it and let me out. Well, I ran fast right to that mole spot and there was that mole! I grabbed it and tossed it all over the yard, and she didn't even try to get it. I would lay down and watch it and then play with it again. I even rolled on it which, by my person's face, she wasn't really pleased, but she didn't do a thing.
Finally I got tired of my mole and took it to the deck. My person said I could come in, but the mole couldn't. I was really tired, but my person praised me for being a tough "mole getter" and gave me a smoked pig's ear. I munched that down and was so tired I had to take a nap. While I was napping I think my sneaky person did something with my mole because when I woke up and went out my mole was gone.
We went back out and my person changed the oil in the riding mower and did some more things to it, and I searched hard for more moles, but there wasn't a one. That's ok; I checked the yard and barked at the neighbors. She mowed until she ran out of gas and it was getting late, so we went in for the day. I guess I was really tired from all my mole events because I ate supper and went to bed. She praised me again and told me even tough mole hunters can get really tired so sleep well. I think I'll take her up on that!

I did go and get my shots, and I was pretty good. I like the vet and she's nice to me, but I just don't trust her all the way since that temperature deal in my butt. I was pretty good and tried to give her kisses while she listened to my heart, and I took my shots really well. But then she went for my ears and I just don't like having my ears checked. I got held down and, sure enought, I've got a bit of infection in my right ear, so to the back room for ear cleaning. I put up a fight but I lost and got my ear cleaned and drops. My person told me she was just going to hold me down by sitting on me and putting drops in my ear. She said she wasn't going to count drops, just squirt it in my ear. Well, she doesn't know it yet, but it's going to be a good fight.
But she didn't lie to me. We went to my favorite park, St. Francois State Park, and I got so excited when I saw where we were going. I cried a little bit and sang a happy song right in my person's ear. She laughed and told me to quit giving her "wet willies" I don't know what that means, but I just got more excited. We got out of the car and went straight to the creek. I had to do lots of sniffing since all kinds of animals must come to that creek. Then I waded into the creek and walked around and got cool, and we walked up and down the creek.
I got out and we walked the picnic area and then walked to another picnic area. We went back down to the creek in the second area, and I really wanted to go into the big culverts under the road, but my person vetoed that. She can be a real spoilsport when she wants to be. We walked back to the first area, and I was really hot, so I went back to the creek and got in and took some big drinks. The water's running really clean after our big rains, so my person was ok with that. I played in the water quite a while and chased minnows and then got out. This time my person remembered to bring towels, but I threw her a different curve. I rolled in the dried leaves and was a mess. Back into the water to get rinsed and severely threatened and then taken to the grass to dry.
I dried good and got a ride through the park with the car window down. I really love this; for a long time I didn't know my window would go down. But all good things end and we had to go home. So I thanked her for the fun day with kisses and then I hogged the bed all night and once I must have stretched and shoved my legs right in her side. I think I heard some bad words but I was too tired to listen.

Things have gotten much better. It's quit raining so much, but it got hot and humid and my person took out my pool again. I know she puts it in place and runs a hose to it; then she goes back to the faucet, and, surprise, water just comes out into my pool. Well, now, I go back and forth with her just to make sure she's doing this right, and when she turns on the faucet I run really fast to the pool and get in and lay on my belly. That way I can get wet and lap water at the same time. Well, my person worked in the yard all day, and I was in and out of the pool and rolling in the grass. She got out her riding mower and took the deck off to clean under it, but she shooed me away-told me I was to apt to eat the nasty grass. I thought she didn't know.
I don't know if I told you, but things got even better. I was in the natural area, barking like crazy, using my "come here, person, something is wrong bark. She quit what she was doing and checked, and I showed her a new animal-she called it a turtle. Well, I finally got it in my mouth and ran with it, but my person took it from me and tossed it over the fence. I was hacked, but she said something about it might carry bacteria. I don't know about that, but she sure likes to take my finds.
It got even exciting later when the turtle came back and I gave my person my come here bark. Again she threw it over the fence. But I think I got even. I gave her my really strong "come here quick" bark, and she did, asking me if the turtle was back. I showed her under a tree, and she looked and told me she didn't see anything. Then she watched me looking in the tree and so did she, and there was the four foot long black snake I had been telling her about. She wasn't real happy and told me if things were long and slithered I really should leave them alone.
Later a grey cat decided to cross the yard, and I took off without a sound and that cat ran as hard as it could. My person just shook her head and said that cat was low on the intelligence stick and that the dog catcher would probably have to leave a cat trap before I figured out how to catch it. I like cats, but this one runs good, and the others I know just play. My person said she didn't want me to get something called cat aggressive. She's ok with rabbits and squirrels, and I pretty much can keep them out of my yard. After all, it's my yard, and I didn't invite these things in.
I had to go to day care while my person picked up parts for her mower, which is a great toy, but I didn't have a great time. It was just too hot and humid outside too quick, and my best pal had just come into heat and wasn't her great self, so I was doubly happy when my person came.
I'm really worn out, but I ate pretty good, and my person said rest good tonight because I have to go to the vet tomorrow and get my shots. I don't think I'll be happy, but she said to be good and we'd go to the park and I could play in the creek, so maybe it will be a good day tomorrow anyway.
And I've even learned not to bark at my neighbor, just to lay and watch their kids shoot hoops and wag my tail really hard. And I think my person better get herself some Front Line as she found her first tick and has really been a complainer. I gave her my grow up and quit whining look, but she's still whining. Some people are just hard to take.

There just hasn't been anything to write about. Every other day we had rain and lots of it. Any time it wasn't raining my person was mowing. We couldn't go to the state parks as there was water over the road. My person tried to take me to the city park for leash training but that didn't go over good. I was really in a mood because we couldn't even take our regular walks. There was lots of lighting in these rains. I even woke up one night when it was storming and scooted as close as I could get to my person. She said it was ok, and I went back to sleep. We even had to leave the TV on because of the severe weather and flood warnings, and I don't like to sleep with the TV on.
I did find out one good thing from this weather-there's lots of rabbits. I'm having a great time chasing them out of the yard. I lay in front of the sliding glass door and watch and when I see a rabbit I rumble and my person lets me out. I don't make a sound and almost got a rabbit yesterday. I did find out that rabbits sometimes make their nests right out in the yard. I found some new babby rabbits and quick as a flash they were no more. My person was a little grossed out, but said that's what happens when you're at the low end of the food chain. I can't figure that out, but spent the rest of the day looking for more rabbits.
This morning was a good rabbit day, but I still didn't catch any, and now I'm bored since my person's working inside. She told me that when it cooled off a bit she'd take me to the park and tomorrow we would check out the state park. I'm having a little dream now and making my woof noises. Maybe I'm dreaming about our walk.

Oh boy, am I ever in the doghouse! It's rained here in Missouri for days and the ground is really soggy. Well, my person was going to help a friend with a water problem and she sent me out to pottie. I didn't go in after I pottied; I went down to the natural area and found a great puddle of water, and I dug and dug and threw mud and rolled in mulch.
When my person came out yelling for me, I ran really happy to her. Big mistake!!! She was really mad at me! My muzzle was black to my eyes; the sides of my body were black and from my feet to my belly was nothing but mud. She just grabbed the hose and washed me from head to tail; she said if I could roll in the cold water, I could stand a cold water rinse. It really wasn't very cold, but I knew better to act anything but sorry. She took me in and dried me and put me in the kitchen and left.
She told me not to expect treats since I was really a BAD dog, but when she came back she had me a hamburger patty. She did gripe the whole time she was cutting it up for me and I only got one French fry. Since then, I've had to go out on a leash and not get time to sniff around. I've decided the best thing to do is sleep so I won't get in trouble. I sure hope her attitude is better tomorrow. Doesn't she know that muddy water is absolutely the best thing in the world?

About 4 am while I was in bed with my person a big crash rattled the house. I raised my head and growled, but my person said it was ok, it was just big thunder. Well, I had heard thunder before, and I'm pretty certain she might have been wrong. Lo and behold, she was right-lots of lightning and huge thunder. Each time I raised my head and growled, and each time my person told me it was ok. I didn't shake or anything, just took little naps. Then my person said "To heck with this" and we got up and had a little ice cream and I went out and took a fast pee in the rain. I got wiped off and we went back to bed and slept until 9 am.
We got up and went outside and saw we had a little damage. I played while my person raked mulch out of the yard. Then I rolled in the wet mulch which really made her unhappy. I got chewed out and dried off, and, after a cup of coffee, and before the weather got bad again, my person put my harness on. That means we're going to do something exciting. She pointed to the car and I rushed and got in. She said we were going to look at the rivers, which I'm all for, but she said they were probably in flood stage, which I didn't understand. Oh, well, a great car ride anyway.
We went to St. Francois State Park, but I couldn't play in the water. She was right, it was really high, but we did walk in the rain, and I walked in puddles and made a mess. My person didn't gripe, just put the blanket over the seat and said we'd dry good at the house. I did have a good time and wish we could do this a couple times a day, but my person said sometimes she had other things to do. I don't think so.

Today my person left for a while. It's not bad because she lets me have the whole house, but I just lay on my pillow in the kitchen and watch for my person. I didn't know she had gone to meet Krista. Krista is the mama of four more of my kids, all boys, including twin baby boys. When they came back to my house I was so excited I had to be put in my crate. I'll be glad when I'm not that excited so I can get to those baby boys. It wasn't too bad as they all stayed close to my crate. I did get to give Krista loves, but I was even pretty rough with her.
Then Krista left and picked up Rolo, who is her 5 month old puppy. Boy, did I want to check him out, but my person said I was just too wound up. She did let me go out and check where he peed, which was pretty good. I did lots of smelling and roamed around the yard. We had had a storm, so I got pretty wet, but my person just dried me. She told me not to worry, I was still pretty much puppy and things would get better. I hope she's right. I got on the recliner with her and put my chin on her leg, and she petted me, and I did feel better.
