What Happened To Gpa??????

April 21st 2011 5:05 pm
[ Leave A Comment | 3 people already have ]

Wednesday about 11p.m. we were getting ready for bed, then everything went CRAZY! Old Baby and I started barking and howling up a storm! I had my big SNOZZ pressed against picture window, trying to find a better view...

Cows and calves were out....They were running all over the place! Gpa jumped up,ran for his outside clothes and boots.
The cattle have already done MAJOR damage to Gma's yard.

Gpa chased those cattle on foot, with the 4-wheeler and the pickup, too. He came back for Coke (not drugs a Soda pop)...
He thought he knew where they rammed through the barbwire.
The top row was an electric fenceline. They shorted out a section. It's pretty hard to fix in the dark, but he tried.

Gma and I waited up until 12:45 and then laid down in bed.
We fell asleep...Imagine that? Gma woke up at 6 a.m. and the lights in living room and kitchen were on. She went to look for Gpa...No Gpa!! She thought, maybe he went to sleep in the sunroom with clothes on...So if, they were naughty again, he could get right out there! NOPE, No Gpa!

Gma flew into her clothes and boots, heart racing, fearing a Cow had run Gpa down or Gpa had a heart attack out there... Gpa saw Gma running and looking...He flashed his pickup lights! He had started to the house about 3 a.m. then another cow decided that fence wasn't going to keep her in...He ended up parking the pickup in that spot and dozing a couple hours until morning.

Yesterday it was 47 and sunny in the afternoon. So, Gpa and I went to fix fence. Gma decided she needed to come and see if there was anything she could do? He had fixed the problem area that allowed the Big Escape! We went to another area that we will be using....Ran 3 new lines of barbwire...A neighbor came along and helped us. This area was some fence the payloader took out this winter moving snow for Gpa in the dark instead of at sunrise.

I sniffed out a frozen mole, the big hunter, that I am! I gave it to Gpa...Thought Gma should cook it for me? We walked and ran in the snow, slush, mud and waterholes. I put on mega miles back and forth as I surpervised....Everyone was Super Pooped last night...We may have ALL snored???? I never have snored, but no one was awake to know if I did or not?????

The heavy snows of this past winter have taken down or loosen many miles of fence. (Everyone is in the same boat!) However, Gpa doesn't have a crew to help. He is by himself, except for me!
Gma hasn't fixed fence on a regular basis for decades. Gpa can't, do it all! So, Gma is going to help fix fence. She's gonna buy herself some fancy pliers with rubber grippers. Then Art and Ritis won't be such an issues. She's going to buy another fence stretcher that isn't as old as she is...That's old! Must have been Great-Gpa's stretcher???? Someone stole this huge bright canary yellow fence stretcher out of Gpa's pickup that Gma bought him. She bought bright yellow so he could see it, if he laid it down in the grass....

The cattle are not happy! Everyone is having trouble keeping them where they should be. It should be warmer, drier and grass should be green and growing fast... They are tired of eating hay! The pastures are not far enough along for them to survive well on just grazing. Took double hay and grain to keep them fed well this winter....We have baby moo-moos everyday now....
The cold damp weather isn't good for them the 1st. twelve hours. They chill easily. After they are a day old, they can take some cold and uck on them....The big 130 pound monster born during that 10" snow made it! He is doing well... Gpa has to use a space heater to warm up any calves that are chilled if born at the wrong time.More wet sloppy weather in the forcast!
This is Your Prairie Princess Ponderosa Reporter signing off until the next big adventure.....
Happy Easter!

What A Week....

Monday it was 70 and Tuesday it was 60. Wednesday and Thursday it was 45. Monday was Gorgeous! I hunted gophers this week... I had opportunity to chase a couple. I dig and dig at their holes. When tired of digging...My overbite comes in very handy. I use my teeth and jaws as an earthmover... I grab roots and dirt and pull it out of my way...Then I dig and chomp, dig and chomp!
I walked on the county road and practiced with my leash...My harnass came and I do not like it! It fits well...I try to backup and back out of it...This doesn't work, so then I sit down and just don't want to walk at all...Any tips on harnass training??? I had bunnies to chase.... Lots of fresh air! Gma was working in the yard. Raking up dead grass, hay, leaves and twigs. Cleaning up poopie, she missed on poop patrol...All of us Furs have been rolling in the yard....trying to bring in as much dead grass as we can! Baby and Precious like to be brushed but I don't like the brush.
Wednesday, she cleaned the cattle room. We moved our big gas grill and patio furniture from the car garage to the patio. We worked all day to clean all the stuff up. Followed by cleaning up our tracking mess in the house.I've been having alot of
spring tubbie rinses. Then snuggle into a hot fluffy towel.
We were all ready to grill T-bones outside for Gma and Gpa's 38th. Anniversary.....then the weather Soured! A spring storm rolled in...started with freezing drizzle, then a skiff of snow.
We woke up to plenty of new snow cover and snow still falling. The snow stopped about 4p.m. We had about 10" of wet, heavy spring snow.... The other snow had all melted except for the shelterbelts, draws of the hills and low lying areas.
I only went outside to take a peek at the new snow. I just couldn't believe my eyes! We thought spring was finally here?
Listening to the weather..they are saying another storm in the forcast! WowZer! This is Crazy! Rain and snow mix was just reported in the forcast for Sunday through Tuesday...
We cooked our steak inside, our vension steak too! Gma made them a white cake for dessert. I had a nibble of cake, then I had a yammie treat wrapped with chicken filet for snack... Yummy! Yummy! I just love sweet potatoes....
I'm getting extra goodies everyday, as I practice using my pet stairs by the pillowtop bed... I go up and down the stairs like a pro...Last night was the 1st. time I went up the stairs without encouragement or a treat. However, if I get up during the night, I forget and just jump off the bed... Gma says, we will keep working on it...The treats make the practice lots of FUN!!!!
Well, I'd better go.... All of us furs are trying to update our diaries. Gma put up pictures of Precious and her surgery mess... I was with her at the Fur Doc that day....I was real upset over how quiet Precious was for so very long after we brought her home. I wouldn't leave the sunroom. I stood watch over her until she was awake and moving around.... I sure don't want anything to bite me in the hiney!!!! Gma posted my picture of me standing watch over my fursis....
Kisses and Huggies, Mazy

Interior Decorator and Fur Stairs and Feathered Friends.....

April 8th 2011 4:40 pm
[ Leave A Comment | 2 people already have ]

Well pals, it has been a busy week on the Ponderosa... I've slopped in the mudholes and mucky corrals. I've played in the snowbanks and slushies. I've chased my 1st. gopher of Spring. He had the nerve to set up housekeeping in Gma's yard! I've enlarged his front door trying to dig him out... Going to hang out my shingle: "Mazy, Interior Decorator." Gma said,"go for it Mazy!" Cuz, the cattle found an open gate and stomped Gma's lawn. Looks like someone took a tiller into the yard...Oopsie!

I've been in the tubbie at least 2 times per day, all week. I've trailed rabbits and sniffed deer. Those stinky kitties are still in the culvert at the end of the driveway...I wanna see a stinky kitty....They won't let me go in the culvert and invite them out to play! Gma and I have been walking the county road everyday. We do 2 to 2.5 miles. A good stretch for me.... I'd do more, but Gma's hip is being crabby about our outings.

I saw my 1st. robin the other night. Hundreds and hundreds of geese are flying north everyday... About dark they land on our marshland and honk up a storm! The bald eagles are still here. Lots of mallards have arrived. Little house wrens, barn swallows and finches are coming home. Will be lots and lots of song birds arriving anytime. The hawks are fixing up their nests before they hatch a new batch of chicks. The seagulls and pelicans are back. Yep! That's right, we have seagulls and pelicans... (They fly north to get away from the humid heat. Come fall they go south again, where it is warm. We also have swans and whooping crane). Soon the shelter belts will be alive with a variety of woodpeckers looking for bugs in the trees.

I had a half grown squirrel playing in my yard this week. He was way up in the top of a 65 yr. old cottonwood tree. He sat up there chattering up a storm. He wouldn't come down and play tag! Gpa sold a bunch of cattle. Now, he doesn't have to carry so many buckets of grain everyday...Means more hunting time with Gpa...Yippy!

My fur stairs to put by the pillow top bed came. This new training game is pretty COOL! I go up the 3 stairs...get a treat! Down the 3 stairs, get a treat..... We do this 3 or 4 times a day...Cuz, I'm a doxie, Gma wants me to stop jumping off the big bed! I've been ringing my brass bell on the front door...wanting to go out the front door! Not happening, yet! The frontyard is on the westside of the house...Still alot of snow out there.... My big tractor tire sandbox is still buried in the snow. I love digging in my sandbox!!!

Now that Spring is unfolding...I'm busy, busy, busy! Soon as the last of the snows goes: Gma and I will be outside 3/4 of most days. We have tons of outside work to do. This little doxie loves to TOAST and ROAST.... THAT'S HOW I GOT THE NICKNAME :
TAR BABY! I can hardly wait until the patio furniture and the gas grill come out of the garage..... Loves, my vension off the gas grill! BBQ time, BBQ time....soon it will be, BBQ time!
OMD! It's suppertime..... Gotta run....Kisses and Hugs, Mazy

Baby's Reporting On Precious...

March 30th 2011 1:56 pm
[ Leave A Comment | 4 people already have ]

Old Baby reporting for Gma, Precious and Our Pack. We would like to thank everyone for their prayers. Thank you for all the kind notes and pressies sent to Precious…. We appreciate each and every one of them….Gma and Gpa are calving now and a freezing rain is in tonight’s forecast. Gma doesn’t know if, she can write each FUR a personal thank you note. Our pack sends Big Licks, Butt Wiggles and Meows to each of you!

We’d like to report that Precious is eating, drinking and taking care of her business. We are so pleased! She has the glittery sparkle back in those deep large green eyes. Amazing what a mega dose of big gun antibiotics can do to knock an infection back and break a fever. Of course, this only helped the old kitty, because, WE HAD ALL THOSE POWERFUL PRAYERS IN OUR CORNER. BTW- Gpa was most upset that he didn’t know she had been bitten….Since, she spends her evenings on his lap snoozing….
He wonders which mature barn kitty had the kahoonas to take the Queen of the Ponderosa On?????

Shaving one’s hip and part of their tail makes things look worse than they are….The two 1” incisions are nasty looking. They are still draining which is good. They do not stitch them up, so they will drain and heal from the inside out….Choosing to use a shot of antibiotics instead of daily pills for 10 days. Takes the infection down faster…..Also, Precious is a stinker even with a pill popper, when it comes to oral meds….We have pictures to post as soon as we can work it into our day.

By bedtime last night…she knew, she was home. She was thirsty and hungry. We gave her a little water and food. She spent the night curled up on the loveseat in the sunroom.
Her appetite isn’t normal (usually that of a LION!) but she is eating….

She is upset with Gma because, Gma has her contained in the Sunroom. (14x20) She can not roam the house with the drainage. We will have a good size mess in the Sunroom in a few days. Either this or sit in the medium size dog crate… She Hates to be Crated! She can’t go into the dirty cattle room due to the open wounds….She wants in there to climb up into the open rafters and sit in the fiberglass insulation. Gma thinks fiberglass in those wounds would cause new problems. She is not pleased with Gma! Gma also wants Mazy to let her rest and take it easy. Mazy is mad because the door on the Sunroom is shut.
Gma said, “it is better that Precious and Mazy, be Upset with Her than with Grandpa…” You know the Momma figure, always has to be the bad guy, when it comes to the unpleasant stuff….

I’m a little extra WARM due to the closed door….which allows more heat to stay in the Entry which is my bedroom. However, this old gal knows, nothing is done in this House without a Good Reason…. It was 39 for the high today. I laid on the back steps awhile to cool off! Freezing Rain Tonight!!!! Will Winter Ever End? Still lots of snow on the ground…. Gpa has been trying to sell beef calves for weeks and weeks…. The weather and breakdowns keep the job from being done. This family is a bunch of tough old birds….Just like Timex watches…Stomp on them and they keep right on ticking!!!
What Awesome Pawsome Pals We have!
Love You All…..Kisses, Old Baby

A couple other Tricks to try before she goes to the Doctor... She's waiting to use the new shower massage....I sure hopes is helps her.... She's Not much FUN when limping along! I'm snuggling in to help her keep warm....The weather up and down and all over the place isn't helping either. I think, Gma was chilled when the power was off???? She shoulda puts those thermal underwears on sooner!

Saved ALL the Food...didn't have to throw anything away...Snow flurries again this morning. Gma put a big order in for us furs.... She ordered me the tall Pet Stairs.... Says,"I have to stop jumping off the pillow top bed at 30" high...before I hurts myself!" I'll give them a try...Cuz, Gma said,"little treats are involved....." I'm still waiting on the Noodles Harnass to come. The other stuff was our meds and such... Nothing exciting! Gma says, "I have to wait till Easter for any new toys...She fixed 6 toys when power was off.." Old Baby isn't too perky today. She's went out a lot of times to potty... She didn't eat breakfast or dinner... She did eat 2 pupperoni sticks. I sure hope she feels better soon...

Grandma is still trying to learn a trick or two...She was messing around... How did she, do??? She thought this was pretty cute????

The Silver lining in the power outage was: I Now have 6 Fuzzy animals out of the fur hospital...They are sporting brand new squeakers.... Just like Christmas! She only has 1 baby left in the toy hospital....I've been given them a workout since yesterday! Doesn't do much for Gma's headaches that she is still fighting ....Life is ALL about ME! At least from the eyes of this little doxie.....kisses, Mazy

Power Outage and Storm Report....

March 24th 2011 1:32 pm
[ Leave A Comment | 4 people already have ]

The freezing rain on Tuesday turned to snow. 8" of new snow before the storm moved off...We had a nice HOT supper Tuesday evening, while our power flickered off and on. Shortly after Gma grabbed the fastest shampoo and shower on the Prairie:
OOPSIE! It was pitch black and totally quiet! No lights or television,etc..... So wierd, how very dark it was in my house! I didn't like it at all!

Gma went around the house lighting candles while Gpa was rounding up flashlights. Then they put batteries in a radio so we could hear the weather. We listened to the music for awhile. The power didn't come back on.... So we all decided to go to bed and snuggle together. The wind pounded on the house while the snow continued...

We were without power for 17 hours. Gpa was in the process of getting the generator set up and running.... The power came back on at 2 p.m. on Wednesday. Gma has a gas stove so we had hot homemade vegetable soup and grilled sandwiches.

It was chilly in the house but never dropped below 50 degrees.
I stayed snuggled in my bed with a shearling coat and two blankies on Wednesday morning. Gma put a bunch of layers on and just kept moving around...

Gma was worried about her two deep freezers both completely full... Also the frige stuff! (This is why, we were going to hook up the generator) Ice cream and a few other things went to a snowbank outside...Moved that stuff before it was garbage...
Gma made campfire coffee... Throw the grounds in the water, boil it and strain it. Hauled water up from the basement to wash dishes, flush potty and for drinking. This was the 1st. time this happened, since I've lived here...

Tuesday night was a Rough night for all of us. Old Baby will share how unsettling the night was... I will say this: I do not like the dark, the cold and the pounding wind on my house! I do
not care for candlelight... I do not like the dancing small orbs of light from flashlights....I didn't have a nightlight
... And I missed my potty station ... I pooped on the floor!!!
I couldn't use the puter.... The old fashioned radio crackled in the storm.... This made me more nervous!
I tried to protect my people from the storm.... in the end,
I was a totally exhausted little doxie!!!

Hugs and Kisses,

What's UP Around Here....

March 22nd 2011 4:29 pm
[ Leave A Comment | 4 people already have ]

News reported tonight that 1,000 peoples were stranded in their cars last during the blizzard on March 11th... This little doxie doesn't understand: Why they didn't stay home and snuggled into their blankies?????

Now some are re-thinking travel without winter survival kits...
That's a No Brainer! This is North Dakota! Hell-o,anybody home in that upstairs compartment??????? Food, water, blankets, flashlights, warm clothes, gloves and boots are an automobile MUST HAVE!!!!!!!

Today we are in the middle of another storm.... I BET my Paws, that peoples took this warning more seriously????? It is one big icy mess out there right now! The temperatures are dropping and the icy rain has changed to snow. This time we have ice underneath whatever new snow arrives... This storm is suppose to last until Wednesday night.

Grandpa was Inside today from 11 to 5:30 p.m. Precious, Grandpa and I curled up on the Big bed and snuggled All afternoon! Grandma threw us all out of the living room so she could clean it. We watched television and took cat naps!

Grandpa is back outside doing the evening feeding of the cattle. We are sure glad we are not calving like most of our neighbors....I poked my nose out the icy door to make sure old Baby was doing okay with her potty business. BURRRRRR! I'm sure glad, I have my potty pads to go too....

Grandma and I have been walking the county road on the springy days between the storms. The geese are coming north, so spring must be coming? About 2 feet of snow melted in the past week...
A few patches of prairie are snow-free. I saw a few sprigs of green grass in the yard...(Just before some of Gpa's calves found it and chewed it off!)

Grandma and I saw a bald eagle last Wednesday when we walked. I've been working on a refreshing my leash training. A little brush up on my outdoor commands. (Sometimes, I just don't want to listen. HeHe!) Grandma ordered me a Noodle and Friends, No choke harness in watermelon pink with lime green trim. We are
excited and waiting for our package. The site is so COOL! They sell all kinds of harnesses, leashes, collars, tags, neck warmers,
coats, sweaters, snuggle bags and more. You can find them with this addy: you might want to check it out...

Grandma had to take Grandpa to the emergency room last Saturday.
He lascerated his little finger on his masterhand. He was cutting the bale strings off. Said, "he must have been daydreaming? He had his new jack knife upside down...Oopsie!" He had 3 stitches to hold it together. Now we are trying to make sure he keeps it really clean! Gpa continues to have breakdowns with the equipment...Due to all the cold, ice and such stressing the machinery. Blew a couple tires and took out some bearings. All part of the agri-world we live in....

Sunday our kitchen was so toasty...Grandma baked 4 kinds of cookies and buns,too... We froze alot of cookies after filling our glass jars. Grandma said," Mazy one of these days, the snow and all the sloppy will dry up... We won't be inside....We will be outside working in our yard." Baked enough cookies to last through April. All the cookies have chocolate! Phooey! So, Gma is making us Puppers another batch of our peanutbutter biscuits...We LOVE them! Even old Baby can still chew them...

Since we are having sloppy days now.... I'm in the tubby Alot, getting washed off .... Then, I grab my towel and do Zoomies all over the house! Gma has been playing toys, hide-n-seek and other games after supper with me. I've been snuggling with her on her heatpad... The roller coaster weather has been really dragging her out. By the time supper dishes and kitchen are cleaned up, she is just pooped! The time change has been real hard on her this year. We think, it is because it is still so wintery outside?????

Our pack has fallen way behind on our pals diaries and new photos. We haven't visited our groups in about a week. We are trying to catch up again during the current storm.... Since the weather is BAD...Gma knows she will have the whole week to complete her work... We are saving blocks of time for dogster and caster, too.

Supper is in the oven. I smell it! So, Gma will be feeding Baby and I really soon...I'd better go sit in my bed..It is toasty in the kitchen, while the oven it on! I heard Gma say, "she was going to wash and dry her hair before supper...Yippy! The Blow dryer is coming out! I love the blow dryer!!!! I always get some blasts of heat, when she dries her hair....The good thing about tubbies in the spring is more time with the blowdryer! Love it,love it,love it!!!!!
Kisses, Mazy

Blizzard Report

March 14th 2011 4:32 pm
[ Leave A Comment | 2 people already have ]

Hi Furpals....Just so ya know I wasn't telling Tall Tales about the Blizzard last Friday.... I'm putting up just a couple pictures for ya to see.

We heard many school buses were sent out too late. Should have let school out earlier. A couple buses collided and 30 kids had to go to the hospital. (It was a total white-out) One bus driver and 3 kids ended up sitting on the stuck bus until 3:30 a.m. One of our school buses ended up 2 miles south of us at our neighbors for the night. Hundreds and hundreds of cars were stranded all over the state. We're praying this was the last of the storms for this year.

It was 38 yesterday, dripping and slushing, everywhere. I hunted for 90 minutes. Gma tried to shovel snow for awhile. It was so heavy. She quit and walked around with me while I hunted. Suppose to be 45 today. The snow settled several inches yesterday with the sunshine and nice temperature. Lots of melting. We sure hope it doesn't melt too fast. The ground is still frozen, so the water can't soak in....

The last 3 winters have been very hard ones. The weather hasn't been normal...Way more snow, ice, cold, wind and storms than normal. Forcast is for nice temperatures this week. By the weekend...may have snow and freezing rain. Oh No,Not again!!!!

First picture of our driveway: the snow was between 2.5 and 3 feet deep. Couldn't break through with our tractors. Had to call a commerical payloader to come in and clean stuff up again.
We're thinking it might be June before Gma's tulips can bloom? We are re-thinking the full vegetable garden for summer. Depends on the weather once nice. Also how much trouble we have cleaning up the yard, flowers and ranchyard. Our bushes have alot of broken branches .... Gpa,"Put on your to-do list, Sharpen those pruners!"

One tractor is fixed and feeding cattle... The other one is being taken apart to repair. Hard to tear apart in the hay yard which is packed full of snow. Blacksmith will need more than a few minutes for this job!
Requires grinding rough metal and welding farmhand unit back together. (City dwellers) Farmhand unit attaches to the front of the tractor. This unit allows you to pick stuff up with it. (Like the big round hay bales).
