Mazy's Prairie Mischief and Adventures

TO BUY OR NOT BUY,THAT IS THE QUESTION????

Well, we have an issue at our house. Gma does!
Gpa and Furs do not! We all sleep just fine!
We all love our 18 year old, double pillow-top bed.
It is in pristine condition and has been flipped
regularly through the years.

Precious and myself, think it is the to die for
bed....We both sleep on it! I sleep there at night
and Precious sleeps there during the day. We think,
it is Pawsome! Gpa has NO Issues with the bed, either!

While I was Imprisoned in the kitchen...Gma slept
with me, on an inflatable queen mattress. She slept
better than she has in sssssssssssssssoooooooo long
she can't even tell you when??????? BTW-Tonight,I
am going back to my regular bed. Yippy!

Gma has had sleep issues for 40 years. Due to the
fibromyalgia and arthritis. The restorative sleep
is very poor for Gma. This repairs the hooman body
from it's daily wear and tear.

She doesn't take sleep meds. or anything but aspirin
and arthritic time released tylenol. She tried lots of
meds. when younger. They Never found a good combo...
She became very sensitive to all medicine while they
play Russian Roulette with her.

Gma was telling her massage therapist about the kitchen
sleeping....She said, she is having a same trouble in
her pillow-top. They chatted and both know that they have
very firm mattresses. These used to be the recommendation.
Now Orthopedic Docs, say softer is better....Less pressure
points.

Now she has pressure points from her neck to her feet.
No matter what the position she is trying to settle into.
She tosses and turns all night long. As the birthdays are
passing..it is showing on Gma. Not just her face but her
energy level for her day. Fatigue is a Big Problem.

The question is to buy or not buy a new medium pillow
top...See if, it Helps her????? The one we have would
move to the guest bedroom. It is a much better bed, than
the current bed in there. Gpa is stumped! He couldn't
believe Gma has slept so well, this past 10 days.
Except for the 1st. night....This was ME! Wiggling out of
that stretchy mesh and playing Houdini in the covers.

Gma said, if it isn't the bed....It is Gpa's snoring
concerts that have become chronic in the past decade.
Some nights, she can pretend they are concerts..HeHe!
Other nights, she can't get to sleep. Most nights, she
reads until, she can't hold her eyes open! She says,
she hurts so BAD when she crawls into bed and lays
down. She even told us, if she didn't have too...she
wouldn't sleep at all!

Precious and I know, we will be Happy no matter what
we have in there. If not, we will run over to the other
bedroom and bunk there. Gpa can sleep Anywhere! A chair,
couch, anything he can find.....He has good, bad and so-so
nights...Says, it's not the bed but his age! Other people
tell her, you just don't sleep well..when you get old!
Great! Since sleep has been an issue since age 20...

Our Big question is buy or not buy? What do our pals
sleep on????????? Gma was looking online at other beds.
Such as memory foam....People we ask, either Love or
Hate them! Doesn't seem to be alot of in between???
They are so very expensive! A good pillow-top is a
good size investment but not 4-5 of her yearling Steers!
Gma has King size headaches just looking online at options.
Wanted to know what is out there before she considers
dragging herself from store to store......

OPINIONS and SUGGESTIONS and INFORMATION WELCOMED......
I think, Gpa is hoping it is the BED and NOT HIM??????
This little doxie Do NOT Snore at all!
hugs and kisses,Mazy

The peeps replaced their 15 year mattress last fall with a memory foam/latex mattress. It is nice in that if dad gets out of bed, mom no longer "feels" him get out and vice versa. Both are having good sleeps except for when the other snores!

My momma also has sleep issues that keep her awake until the wee hours of the morning. Daddy tried buying a memory foam mattress for the King sized bed but momma found that she could not move at all on the stupid mattress because it cradles your body. After trying and trying to sleep momma finally took matters into her own hands and moved to the sewing room to sleep on the daybed at night. When Puffy and I tried to sleep with momma she would wake up with back issues so she made us sleep in our dog bed and that way she would get a good nigths sleep. Momma finds that it isn't so much the mattress (except for the terrible memory foam mattress) as who she is in bed with - BOL, BOL

Our mom has a 2.5 inch memory foam topper on our bed and she says it helps with her achy joints. Sophie Claire and I could sleep anywhere.

I think it might be who you sleep with also. We got a double mattress set from a friend of mom's that is on the floor of the master bedroom (to keep me from jumping off the big bed). Mom CANNOT sleep good on it at all. She doesn't know if its because its on the floor and she's afraid a bug will get in the bed (not that we have bugs running rampant in the house, its just thats where bugs are) or is it because I'm in closer proximity to her than the king size bed and any time she moves or turns over I'm right there and it wakes her up? She's back to sleeping on the couch where she doesn't have to contend with me.

(Mom has a 4" thick memory foam on the king size bed and she said she could take it or leave it. It does conform to your body and after awhile she's sleeping in a big dip.)

Also, according to those commercials on tv, you're supposed to change your mattress every 8 years cause of all the dust mites and dead skin and sweat that get in it over the years. So, maybe a new one would be good for her. Also, if it turns out the new one doesn't solve the problem, she could always go back to sleeping on the air mattress. Sleep is more important than almost anything. (Mom said if we could get paid for all the time Austin & I sleep--we'd be millionaires!) BOL

Me and my momma got a new mattress since ours was really old. It is a double pillow top and had to be custom made since momma has an antique bed and it are a funny size. We really like da new mattress, but both me and my momma can sleep about anywhere. BOL!

Gma had a fair night in the bed....Mazy and Gpa slept great!
Gma wasn't aware of the snoring business last night. Gpa said, she snored...Gma said, well I owe you about 20 yrs. worth of nights...of chronic snoring. Gpa has agreed to let Gma order him one of those mouth pieces and see if that helps?????

We so appreciate the shared bed information. BTW- Gma uses her steamer on the mattress to take care of dust mites. If you saw this bed, you'd think it just came off the showroom floor. We really are thinking it's just too firm for her old body's issues.

Tough wknd. with pain issues due to the frigid weather. This morning it is -16 and the windchill for today is -40 to -50 all day.......Gma feels bad that Gpa works in this! He is alot tougher than Gma....So glad I don't have to go potty in that mess!Poor moo-moos just BBBUUURRRRR!!!!!!!!!SEND Texas and OKLA. heat! 40 above right now...we'd grabs so shorts!

My pawrents have a waterbed. Daddy could sleep on a concrete slab, but mommy has trouble in any other bed, like when they travel. She loves the waterbed! It's warm, and you can make it as firm as you want, and it doesn't collect bugs or anything. She hates to get out of it in the morning! But she says no one much sells them anymore. When this one springs a leak (they all do, sooner or later), she'll be asking fur advice like your G'ma!!!

Condogulations on your DDP!!

Well, my folks mattress is about as old as me.. they got it just before they gots me and I'm six. It's a pillow top and works pretty good for them, but Momma is gonna order the next one from the same company that made the one for Whit's momma's bed... she says that mattress is the best she's ever laid on.

As for whether you momma should get a new bed... well, she spends about a third to a fourth of her life sleeping... or should be! We vote for her getting a mattress that helps her with her pain. She should go to one of the mattress places and try laying on the beds until, like Goldilocks, she finds the one that is "just right"--- she deserves a good night's rest!

Hershey- we had a waterbed years ago and Gma loved it. The Docs said, Gma couldn't sleep on one of those after being hurt in 1989. sssssooooo there went the waterbed..

Finley- we are voting for mattress too....Since Gma's cattle will boy it..She'll do what she wants. If Gpa doesn't like what helps, then he can move to the other bedroom.
We are going to look at medium firmness of pillow-top as soon as the weather warms up and doing so is easier. Being out in the severe cold just adds to the misery. Frustrating when you can do nothing about the weather upheavals that set your medical issues into over drive. There is NO medicine to take care of that......

The weather changed 83 degrees from Friday to Saturday. 43 above to -40. This makes Gma's body like someone smashed her all over with a sledge hammer. It's like abscessed teeth in your whole body...Really ugly! Lots of inflammation in all the muscles and the joints.

Thanks Abbie... we think there are alot of other pups who should be a DDP....

A MAGIC WAND would solve our problem....We just Zap our land to a better winter climate! Gpa would have to go whether he wanted to or not........hehe Mazy and Gma would take hot and dry!

Appreciate all the sharing and information....Just HOPE we can DO better than we did, when buying the new appliances. That was a nightmare! We are happy now with our appliances....Took months to straighten out...We love our electric ovens! We have gotten used to the smooth top range. Have a couple Lemons and you are gun shy!

Mom had a waterbed too for more than 25 years until 2005 when someone she knew broke into the house and stole her stuff and then for spite slit her waterbed mattress. Mom got one of those pillowtop mattress and a whole new bedroom set and hasn't had a decent night's sleep since. She HATES that mattress.(even with the 4" memory foam that becomes sleeping in a big "dip" over time.) She would say every. single. night. when she would get into her waterbed, "I just LOVE my bed." She could crank the heater up to 100 if she wanted or down to 70 if it was too hot. And now...8 years later, she's wondering why she just didn't get a new mattress for the waterbed. **sigh** :/

Mom had a free flow mattress on her waterbed for decades, literally. Then a little white furry rat child came along and it suddenly sprang leaks and then it became an emergency to replace it. She really wanted another waterbed because of the heater. She did wind up getting a totally different kind this time, the one that has the tubes instead of the mattress and you can barely tell it is even a waterbed. She got all the extras, the pillow top and memory foam, and the in-line heater. The lady who sold her the bed assured her there was no way the little Demon child was going to be able to get to the water on this one. Too bad for me. But Mom sleeps so much better on it than she has in many years. And I find it very comfy, too. The only thing she does not like is the fact it is so high off the ground and she has to get the deep pocket sheets for it now. The other one was a platform, so we had to get higher steps for me, too. But maybe your Gma can have a pillow top water bed with the tubes, instead of one big mattress and have the best of both worlds, too.

Hugs,
Romeo and Mom

Romeo-our double pillow-top is very high off the floor. It is why we have a 3 step, set of pet stairs. We have had the deep sided sheets for almost 2 decades. I used them most of the time..The devil gets into me and then I barrel off before anyone can do anything!

So they do still make the waterbeds with tubes?????We were wondering about that possibility....Something to chew on!
Better re-phrase that for Romeo.....Something to think on....

Romeo-Where's the kissing booth??????????
Wanna see my surgical girdle mesh and Imprisonment pics??
In the new diary.........Also I baked for my pals.... Come in sit a spell and eat goodies with me......

Well guess, I'd better get to cooking supper........hugs,mazy

The newest waterbeds have baffles, and also some kind of fiber filler that minimizes--actually eliminates--"waves." They've come a long way from the bags of water we slept on in the '70s!

Mom and dad thought they might go back to a waterbed when they got their new bedroom suite last fall. They do still make them and they are much improved. They decided, however, to go with the memory foam/latex/gel mattress. So far they are both really liking it. The nice thing about this mattress is that it holds the body heat so it almost makes mom forget that she didn't get a waterbed.
