My daily stroll started out as normal. Beautiful, fresh and cool, as you expect on a spring morning.
I got to greet Bailey, he had escaped from his house...but after we said hello, he went back to his growlmy. OMD! If that had been me, I would have been in vamoose mode!
Later I walked a bit with the LWD and her growlmy.
There was a big heron standing at the water's edge in the misty sunbeams. A duck was swimming near him...it would have made a great picture, but growlmy doesn't often take her camera on our strolls...too bad!
Then I saw another dead squirrel dude. A big fat black one. I had a hard time listening to growlmy telling me to 'Leave it!' I just wanted to have a good whiff of it...and maybe a tiny taste? Well, that's one less for us canines to chase after.
Then we started to cross the highway.I heard Growlmy draw in her breath and say 'Oh no!' OMD! There was a big grey animal lying on the center lines of the highway.
At first growlmy thought it was a racoon, but when we came a bit closer, it was a large tom-cat. Sad! It looked like it had been a handsome fellow, with emerald green eyes and steel grey fur. No collar. Growlmy has never seen this kitty in anyone's window or yard, so she couldn't go and notify anyone. This made us very upset. A poor kitty's life wasted, and a loved kitty at that, because it did look well fed...and probably someone wondering where their kitty was and why he didn't come home.
A sad ending to an otherwise great morning stroll. }:o>(
Does your Animal Control pick up dead
bodies if you call them?
Does anyone ever move the bodies
from the highway to the side of the road?
Mom just hates the fact that some of
them get run over - over and over again!
Yes, this was a sad walk.
I don't know...but if that kitty is still there in the morning I will see about calling. The only thing I know for sure is, the DNR will collect dead deer...if they are on or by the road.
Years ago, our neighbours had a dead deer back in their yard...and they wanted my growlmy or the neighbour for whom she was calling, who was about 85 years old to drag it to the roadside first! Can you believe that?! Well, they did eventually come but not till she insisted that neither her nor the neighbour was going to drag it...and we weren't going to have a dead deer hanging around either...OMD!
How very sad. My Mommy gets VERY upset when she see any dead animals on the road (she loves all animals). She always thinks its another life cut short. The worst is when she begins wondering if the dead animal had babies somewhere~sometimes her eyes just start leaking.
Everything you wrote there
sounds just like my mom!
aww, what a sad walk, my mommy doesn't like that stuff either, usually if she sees something up a head she will turn her head, she will always think about it and make her sad for a long time....
My Momma r da same way :( Whut a sad an' scarey way tu die. Rest in Peace, gray kitty...
That's so sad. Poor kitty.
Mommy called and called about a dog that was dead in the grass between the north and south lanes of a busy highway....he had a black collar....she called 3 times and the poor dog was still there for over 3 weeks...she took her regular road home when her PT ended and never found out when he/she was picked up, but he is gone now.......she wishes it wasn't such a busy road or she would have gotten out with gloves and checked the collar for tags....but the cars go 55-75mph there....too risky...I hope the kitty was removed from the road.....
Yes, the kitty was gone later that day. The traffic on that road is about 50mph...Its always a challenge to cross it...I have to cross over it at both ends of my stroll. I always wait nicely with my growlmy until she makes sure that path is clear. At least this is not a major hiway, and its only busy at certain times of the day...
