A Day In the Life of the Fizzy

Thinking Thinking Thinking....

Momma's been thinking a lot lately, pups. Now, I know, normally when Momma starts to think, she gets ideas. And when Momma gets an idea, things usually blow up or spill everywhere. But THIS time, Momma's thinking involves ME!

*gulp*

Actually, it's not ALL about me. Well, EVERYTHING is all about me, but not this time.

See, Momma's really been thinking about getting me a brother or sister. She wants to rescue a pup, cause there's so many out there with no home to stay in, and that makes her sad. But there's so many things she calls pros and cons, and she's just not 100% sure yet. So I'm gonna help her list them all out, and then maybe you pups can chime in!

Ok, cons first. Momma says you should always get the bad stuff outta the way first.

Con 1: Momma says the BIGGEST concern she has is my special diet. Her and Daddy have been super strict about me not getting anything other than my foods. Now, I eat in the living room cause I'm scared of the kitchen floor, so technically another pup could eat out in the kitchen while I eat in the living room. But a new pup couldn't have treats. :( Momma won't let them in the house.

Con 2: The cost. Actually, Momma says this one ranks up there with con 1. Vet care isn't cheap, and us schnauzers need to be groomed regularly, too. She said something about pet insurance, but hasn't looked into it too much. She said she might ask the vet when we go soon.

Con 3: This one is more of a nuisance than a con. We don't have a fenced in yard (and a fence wouldn't really go in our yard the way it's set up) so I go out to potty on a tie out. Momma says she could put another one out there, but she knows we'd get tangled. It would only be annoying first thing in the morning.

Con 4: Momma already has a hard time sleeping with me and Daddy in the bed. She figures another pup would want to sleep there, too. *yawn*

And now the pros. That's the good things!

Pro 1: She's always wanted me to have a brother or sister BFF. I get along well with every dog I've ever met. The rescues she's been looking at around here pretty much all require that I'd have to meet the pup before he or she could live here, and that makes Momma happy, cause if me and a pup DIDN'T get along, she wouldn't bring that pup home.

Pro 2: Momma and Daddy love pups. Lots and lots. We have a loving home, so why shouldn't we save a pup from being unloved and homeless if we can?

OK, she knows the pro list is shorter than the con list, but she says the pro list is more powerful. But the cons are still there, pups. Momma knows you're all going to say "Get another pup!!!!" but when you do, can you say WHY we should get another pup? Thanks, pals!!

Do Not get another pup. They will take your toys.
Trust me on this, I know.

Well Fizz, another pal for you would be great. Mom has always had 2 pups to keep each other company. Now, of course, you would have to go meet the newby and see how things go. You can eat in separate rooms too. Too bad you don't have a fence cause that would be easier. Now, time will tell - if your pawrents start looking and really think they find the right one and you two get along, then that will be great. If its meant to be then it will happen!

Zoe - BOL. I agree!!

Pro - more love.
Con - more attention needed.
Pro - more entertainment and laughs.
Con - you are no longer getting all the attention and laughs.
Pro - no longer are you responsible for all bad things that happen.
Con - you still get the lecture on behavior. (You just don't have to look guilty)

This is a tuffie fur sure! How about if your Momma goes to a rescue group and finds a pup that she and you both like, then offer to foster it, that way you could truly learn if if would work on a permanent basis, and you could adopt that pup, or another one, if the foster got a different furevfur home.
That's growlmy's thinking on this...

But no treats at all? OMD! That would be unthinkable fur me...

I'd say get another pup - having a BFF around is so much fun! I always have tons of fun with Finley when we're together!

MJF has a good idea, fostering. This way you can see what things work and don't work, and you can ALWAYS adopt your foster pup---known as foster failure.

well I know this is a tough call, and I've always wanted a 2nd pup for Petey but never did and now he is set in his old age ways that I couldn't do it too him, next time Im rescuing 2 at the same time.

Good luck with your decision

Well there are good and bad things. Hammy takes all my toys and he is on a special diet so my food has changed. So have the treats. Though there are some "special" treats that are just for me. Mum likes having both of us and we are so different from each others personality. Yes we look different but we act different too. The foster idea sounds like the way to go. See how it works for all of you. If that foster doesn't work out you could keep trying until you get the right pup for all of you. Mean time your helping out a pup that needs somewhere to stay.

Mommy and Mama got me to keep Miss Rudy company. We play and play, and she lets me beat her up (not really, just play fighting) whenever I want. Now Rudy is not as demanding for the Mommies' attention! That is a definite pro!

The con about the food is not really a con. Rudy has a special diet without treats, and my diet had to change too. I barely notice! Now if we get a "treat" it is frozen peas or extra kibble, and we like it just fine! It was much harder on Mommy than on us!

Yes, it is definitely more expensive, food wise, but I have not had near the amount of problems Rudy has, so I've been a lot less expensive. Pet insurance is SORT OF worth it. We have it, and we have claimed a lot of Rudy's stuff, but the premiums and deductible is high and we might be better off stuffing the money in a pillowcase for when she has a big vet bill.

I would say have a meetup with a rescue/foster and try it out! The biggest PRO of all, is DOUBLE THE LOVE! Do you have a queen size bed? Two humans and two dogs is totally doable!

Eventhough I like to get all da attentions at my house, I still really like havin' my brofur Roudy here! We wuv to play together. I have to eat special food fur my allergies, and Roudy just eats da same. It doesn't hurt him at all. He does get a few extra treats when they are doled out coz he is much more active than I am and burns more calories (Mom's words), so he can handle 'em.

About da bed, I was so very used to sleepin' wif Mom, but when Daddy came home, he kicked us outta da big bed :-0 But he bought us great big puppy beds that are right at da end of da big bed. I love 'em!! I even go to bed early now. (I know!)

As far as extra expenses, Mommy agrees that is definitely sumfin to consider, but she cuts back in other places to help us out.

One of da biggest pros is da reward you get from another pup to wuv! Good luck!!

My Ma Letty is a foster mom and that's how I ended up with her. She took me in to foster me then ended up 'dopting me.

Thanks, pups. You've given me and Momma a lot to think about. We'll let you know what we decide!
