A Day In the Life of the Fizzy

This is Fizzy's Momma. Fizzy is a very sick pup right now. Last night he threw up, which I didn't think much of. I mean, you know, he's a dog. He pukes every now and then. He ate his dinner fine and didn't throw up again.

My husband (Fizzy's Daddy) has been off from work this week. I called him during the day, and he said Fizzy hadn't eaten anything and he had thrown up mucus-y foam a few times. Again, nothing TOO out of the ordinary, because Fizzy is extremely finicky and he doesn't always eat right away. When he doesn't eat right away he pukes up foam. My husband also said Fizzy was a bit lethargic, but nothing too bad. He still barked his head off at the mailman.

When I got home from work, Jeff (my husband) said Fizzy had had a little bit of diarrhea. I let him out and he pooped blood. Not bloody stools, but BLOOD. As you can imagine, I FREAKED. I called the vet and they said to bring him in at 5:40. It was only 3:30 at the time. I was kind of uncomfortable waiting, but I didn't want to pay the extra fee for an emergency visit if they didn't think it was an emergency. While I was waiting on the phone for the lady to check to see if they could hold my check until Monday (money is always rather tight in this household) he pooped blood two more times. When she came back to the phone I was pretty much hysterical. She said I could bring him in as an emergency visit if I wanted. OF COURSE I WANTED!!!!

They did x-rays, blood work, and a stool sample (he pooped blood again while he was there). They gave me two antibiotics for now, and they'll have the lab results tomorrow. It can be anything from a parasite to pancreatitis.

But here's the kicker. The x-ray showed a bladder stone that has made its way into his urethra. That's BAD. When he had his surgery back in October, they suspected he had one there, but they couldn't see it on the x-ray. They won't do surgery on his urethra at my vet, he has to go to a specialist. Which, as you've guessed, is very expensive. Thankfully, I've been blessed with a wonderful sister who is paying for it. The vet wanted us to go tonight to have the surgery, but said emergency surgery would be even MORE money. We opted for a referral, and we're waiting for the surgeon to call. He may go as early as tomorrow.

He's puked a few more times since we've been home (once in Jeff's brand new car...and NOT on the puppy pad!) and he's pooped blood 2 times. They told me if it's extreme amounts of blood or his gums turn pale pink or white he needs to go to the e vet. As you can imagine, I'm a WRECK right now. He's very lethargic because he hasn't eaten anything today. I'm not allowed to feed him anything, and he can't start the antibiotic until tomorrow. He looks miserable and I feel horrible. (Of course, at the vet he was acting totally normal. He was screaming at all the dogs in the waiting room. As soon as we came home, he started hanging his head, his ears are laid back, he's sort of moping around...)

Please pray for him. Between him and the possibility that my mom might have cancer, I'm on an emotional roller coaster right now. Thanks everyone.
