Icy had to be put down today

Icy had to be put down today due to a frontal lobe brain tumor. Despite being so sick and retired he was learning to do Deep Pressure Therapy on me. Icy was still trying to help me on the walk to the vet today. Dave walked him in case of trouble but I walked in front and Icy walked next to me despite Dave holding his lead.

I'm in pieces right now. Thank you all for your support with both Lone Star and Icy.

Icy has to be Retired

I finally got Icy in to the vet yesterday. He has to be retired from outside the house work. He either has Arthritis or the start of DM/CDRM. I have had a dog in the past with DM/CDRM and I know the future. It's as bad as I expected. The vet is moving vary carefully and they are in the process of ruling things out right now.

Really upset.

I know a flat long walk that I can take him on but I won't be able to use him to help me cross streets, navigate hills, go shopping, or go on the bus with.

So he will have a lovely retirement. Thank you all for keeping track of my progress training both Lone Star and Icy for Assistance Dog/Service Dog work.

My next dog will likely be from one of the UK Charities and trained by them to help me. It will mean a lot less red tape for me. It may be a couple years till a new dog enters our family.

Wish us well and I will keep updating you all on how Icy is doing.

Icy went to Karate last night & he May be Ill

Icy was surrounded by kids at my 6 year old son's karate class last night.
There were probably ten adults and fifteen kids at this point. This was his second time at the studio but first in the room with all the kids. He was brilliant. I got some good video that I might upload.

To get there we have to take a bus, cross a very busy road while negotiating a hill. He was not reliable and was wobbling on his back legs. On our way home I went down hard on my knees and he was shaking like a leaf next to me. At first I put it down to him not working with me for a few weeks (just got back from a trip to visit family in Arizona) and then I listened to my husband (who walked behind us) about his wobbling. He had mentioned it to me when it was happening and I was to busy trying to keep a steady pace to look. We were going up a smallish hill. Now I'm worried its the beginning of HD or the dreaded DM/CDRM. I'm going to have him at the vet as soon as I can but we can't afford it right now. Gotta wait till the bills are paid.

Terrified for him. Having lost Lone Star so recently.... I need to see if there is something wrong and if there is what we can do but he might not be able to work.

Thanks! Icy and I are so happy your all getting something out of our journey together.

I'm still recovering from my trip to the US and I can't add much to this right now. Icy was very upset this time with me gone. I think having Lone Star last time kept them both sane. I don't think I will be travelling without him again. It's not fair on either of us.

I will keep trying to work out a way to bring him on a plane. UK bureaucrats are tough to get around. Because I trained Icy myself I am finding real difficulty in getting him "certified" for any trip. Trains, buses and cars are fine. No test is available for independently trained dogs and he's been on two lists for charity assessment (the only way to get him tested) for 3 years now. We don't have full coverage under the Disability Act due to this problem.

I hate to complain but that's the sum of our problems right now. But as far as I'm concerned he would pass the tests I have read online so he is a full Service Dog to me.

Mum's just seen that I was Dog of the Day for April 4th, 2013. Thank you all! And I have new rosettes too and lots of bones!

Mum's been out of the country and I've been pining a bit. I keep jumping on my Dad in the middle of the night. LOL He's not amused.... Can't wait for Mum to get home in two days.

Thanks again all! I'll have new stuff to post soon.
