Birthday: May 4th 2009 Likes: raw soup bones and being with us- he also loves his doggie buddies Pet-Peeves: riding in the back of the car, Levi, and being left behind Favorite Toy: he likes stuffed toys, tennis balls and chew bones Favorite Food: He eats Orijen or Acana, but he loves everything he can get Favorite Walk: anywhere he can run off leash with his doggie buds Best Tricks: he gives you his paw a lot, and he wins over non- dog people :) Arrival Story: We took care of Tonka and his two brothers, Hoop and Po, for a week. We got them socialized to kids and dogs with tails. The kids and I just couldn't stop talking about what a great, calm boy he was.... Bio: Tonka is Fling's nephew and he and Cali share a great-grandad. So he's really already part of our Aussie family ;) Forums Motto: Sweet lil buffalo The Last Forum I Posted In: The Mitey Mitey Buh-ens Party!
Yesterday, mama and I went to an asca (all Aussie!) dog show with my little girl, our dog pal Beaumont and Beau's owner. Beau and I showed in juniors and in the regular classes- Beau is neutered and asca has altered classes :) We both did great, but neither of us won big.
Before I went in the ring for the second time, a boy and his Grandma were walking around looking at all the dogs. The Grandma said that I was a gorgeous dog, and the boy asked his Grandma if he could pet me. The Grandma said that the dogs are at a show and just to look at. Well, phooey, dogs aren't just for looking at, so mama said he could pet me if it was okay with his Grandma. The boy was only about 2 or 3, but he was very sweet and gentle and patted me and talked to me for a couple minutes. I gave him a gentle kiss because he smelled so nice. He said he liked me best of all- that made me feel better than any big ribbon I could have won!
I think I'm going to take a break from showing- I do my best but the judges must not think it's good enough. Mama and her friend made a deal to show us in rally obedience in March, and we continue to read with the kids and visit the nursing home. Our trainer's schedule hasn't worked out for herding, but I go to work with mama and get to be a good dog. Also, my girl is using me as her 4H dog this year- it's going to be great no matter WHAT I get to do :)
Mama's good friend decided she needed another dog after losing 2 of her dogs within a year. My brother Jacob was still with our breeder, so we asked if he'd like to live with the friend. Well, Jacob absolutely ADORES kids and did fine with their 13 year old cattle dog and our former cat, Turtle. He's a little slower than me ;) but he is just a smushy sweetie! He went for a walk/run with me and Beaumont the other day and had the best time. Mama and I are so happy we'll get to see each other more :)
I'm still helping the kids with reading at the school and the library, and I hope to go to the nursing home when time allows. Herding is going much better, and I'm signed up to take another rally class. Mama needs to get on the stick and get my RN title- I know what all those signs mean, Mom! Come on, I'll be TWO whole years old in just a few weeks- lots to do to keep me busy!
Today I went to a nursing home for the first time. I rode an elevator and met people in wheelchairs, walkers and hospital beds. I was a little stressed at times, but it was fun to go with mama. Gypsy and my oldest boy went, too- the residents seemed to LOVE Gypsy :)
Next week, I will go to a school to prepare for being a tail waggin' tutor who will help kids learn to read well. Then I'll be doing the same thing at a library starting next month. I love kids- 4H has started and I'm doing well with that.
The herding has been put on the back burner for now. Mama's busier work schedule has made it harder to get out to the farm, and I'm needed here to help my boy with 4H. There's plenty of life yet to be lived- just taking it one happy day at a time!
