ThunderWorks is an innovative pet-focused company focusing on manufacturing affordable, effective, and easy-to-use solutions for many of the problems pet owners face. The ThunderShirt, a calming solution for reducing anxiety in cats and dogs, is probably one of the company’s most well-known products.

The ThunderLeash is one of ThunderWorks’ other best-selling products. It offers a safe, no-pull solution for dogs prone to pulling on walks. Leash pulling is a very common problem in dogs, and while it’s often the result of your pup simply wanting to engage with their environment, they shouldn’t be allowed to pull too much. No one wants to be dragged down the street on what should be a leisurely, calm walk with their pet.

The patented design of the ThunderLeash is simple to use and easily converts a standard leash to a “no pull” style in just seconds. It teaches your dog how to walk nicely through gentle chest compression. The more they pull on the leash, the tighter it gets. But is this product all it’s cracked up to be? Read on to find our thorough review of the ThunderLeash to determine if it’ll be the best solution to your pup’s pulling problem.

Simple to Use

The ThunderLeash is very simple to use and is compatible with nearly every type of collar. It doesn’t require your pup to have had any prior training, so you can get started as soon as you receive your leash in the mail.

To begin using it, clip it onto your pet’s collar as you would a standard leash and slide the strap into the “no-pull” solution position. Then, wrap the ThunderLeash around their torso, sliding the leash into the “no-pull” solution slot on the hardware. You’ll need to adjust the slack buckle under the leash to sit loosely on your pup’s torso without adding tension to the leash.

Recommended by Positive-Based Trainers

The ThunderLeash comes highly recommended by positive-based dog trainers around the United States. When used as intended, the leash will not cause any discomfort as its safety buckle will only apply safe pressure to the dog’s torso. It will prevent too much pressure from being felt if your dog does pull while wearing the leash. This immediate and safe feedback your dog receives from wearing the ThunderLeash combines excellently with other positive-based training techniques you may be trying to implement when teaching your pup pleasant manners.

Quality Materials

The ThunderLeash is made from materials that don’t feel cheap or flimsy. The sturdy and flat nylon feels durable in hand and has reflective material woven into it for late-night walks.

It’s not just your dog who will feel comfortable using the ThunderLeash, either. The leash’s padded handle features a soft and squishy lining, so it’s comfortable for you to grasp and hold for long walks.

The hardware is very heavy-duty, so it is designed to last a long time; however, it may be too heavy or bulky for smaller dogs.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Can I use the ThunderLeash on a dog that weighs over 100 pounds?

Unfortunately, no. To stay within safety targets, ThunderWorks limited the weight range of this product to just 100 pounds.

What is the return policy?

ThunderWorks has a great return policy for its products. If you’re not happy with the company’s products, you can return them within 60 days of purchase for a full refund. The caveat here is that the item must be purchased from ThunderWorks’ website itself or one of their authorized sellers.

Any ThunderWorks branded product purchased from an authorized seller can be returned to the place of purchase for a credit.

How should the buckles be adjusted?

The Slack Buckle should be adjusted so the leash sits loosely against your pup’s torso without adding any tension to the leash. You should be able to fit two fingers between the ThunderLeash and your pup’s chest when they are not pulling. Be sure to adjust the buckle to ensure too much pressure isn’t added when your dog does pull.

Is the ThunderLeash inhumane?

The ThunderLeash can be a fantastic tool for people with dogs they cannot hold back. It is not inhumane when used correctly, but it shouldn’t be expected to be a standalone solution. Your dog will still require training to address their pulling problem.

What the Users Say

Buying online is convenient, but thanks to untrustworthy sellers and sketchy business practices, it can be suspect at times. For every good online business, there are three bad ones out to scam consumers out of their money.

To keep it as easy on you as possible, we’ve researched what other ThunderLeash users had to say by reading their online reviews.

Most users love that the ThunderLeash does what it is intended to do. It made a night and day different for some dog owners. They raved about how easy it was to use and how quickly their dogs corrected their pulling behaviors.

However, not everyone had success with the ThunderLeash. Some reported the leash working only 50% of the time, while others found that it didn’t work at all with their dogs. Additionally, some users complained that the main piece of hardware was too cumbersome to stay in the proper position for their dogs. This seems to be particularly problematic for smaller breeds.

Final Thoughts

The ThunderLeash is designed to be a positive-based training solution for dogs that pull on their leash. It uses chest compression to teach problematic pullers how to walk nicely. The leash is relatively easy to use and adjust to your dog’s build. Since it comes in several sizes, there’s an option for nearly every dog.

While ThunderLeash has consistently good reviews across a number of online shopping platforms, not every dog owner has had great success with the product. It may be that the effect of pulling will vary from dog to dog. It’s hard for us to say with 100% certainty that the ThunderLeash will work for your pup, but given the company’s 60-day return policy, it’s worth giving it a try if your dog’s leash pulling is making your walks unbearable.
