We have a 13 month Jack Russell Terrier and we love him very much. He is a good dog overall, but my problem is that my 11 yr old son has Asperger's Syndrom/Autism and he can be hyper and annoying and different than our other two children. Our son does not hurt the dog, in fact we read that pets can help Autistic children and he has become very attached to the dog. However, for some reason our dog does not like my son. Whenever my kids or myself are wrestling around or running around the yard, my dog will bite my son and growl at him pretty fierce. We have to calm our dog down to let him know our son is not hurting us and that he is just playing too. I am concerned because I never researched which dogs will be best in thi type of family, but we love our dog. Any advice would be great or we may have to consider putting our dog up for adoption if he cannot stop iting, scratching, and growling at my son. I do not want my son scared of him. It's hard enough working with an autistic child, and even harder to train a dog to learn their behavior as well?
