Why does my dog spin?

When I ask my two dogs if they would like to go outside, they head to the back door and wait for me to open it. While one usually jumps near the door, my female yorkie spins in circles and growls. Sometimes she starts spinning on her way to the door from the couch. Why is this?

My little dogs do that also. I have always thought it was just something they do when they get excited about going outside or going for a car ride.

My Doberman spins like a little tornado when it's supper-time. I have no idea how he doesn't fall over from getting dizzy.

Lots of dogs spin when they get excited about something. Couldn't tell you why they think it's fun, but it's very common. :-)

She's excited. Mine does this when I come home. I don't know whether she's happy to see me or happy to go outside. Just like people, dogs express themselves in different ways.
