Roscoe

licking....

Roscoe is animal aggressive, but when i go out and end up petting my neighbor's dogs or holding and petting neighborhood cats he immediately greets me at the door and sniffs me (which I expect) but he also licks me. Is there a reason a dog which is animal aggressive and doesn't usually lick that much does this when i have another animal's scent on me?

Many dogs which were not socialized to a variety of animals as little puppies behave in an aggressive way to animals as adults. Part of the behavior is excitement. If he knew HOW to greet and behave around other animals he would get a chance to indulge his curiousity. In a way you allow him a vicarious thrill by bringing the scents home. Sometimes I don't appreciate the curiousity as the sniffing is so intense it's like the dog is poking me to see if the other animal will jump out or something....
