Nala

How long does a de-wormer take to expel worms?

Nala threw up in the middle of the night earlier this week and there were roundworms in it. Went to the vet and got Nemex dewormer. She had her first dose Monday. On Friday night she threw up again and there were still worms in it, but I have not seen any worms come out in her poop all week. She still has to take another dose in 2 weeks, but just curious if it should have had an effect by now.

The previous poster is way, way wrong! Nemex kills worms within 12 to 24 hours... are you sure she didn't vomit the wormer as well? If there is a chance she did you should call your vet... Nemex is very safe and they may want you to repeat it sooner than the two weeks, although you will definitely want to repeat it in two weeks, and two weeks later you need to have a fecal exam to make sure no new worms have developed from eggs left in her system.

It shouldn't take long at all. And just because you don't see them doesn't mean much, you could have eggs in it too. so make sure you pick up the poo and dispose of all of it.
and then your vet will most likely put your dog on Interceptor once a month or equilvent so that the dog has continuous protection.
Follow up with the vet on how to protect her year long.
