Research the dog breeds, talk over with your family which breed would be the best for you all, and work out a compromise from there.
Depending on the size of your house, a huge dog may be a bad idea.
Also, if you want to buy from a breeder, be sure to read up on breeders so that you find a good one.
My website is one place to read up on breeders:

As a girl going into your teen years, you are away from home A LOT! 8 hours a day at school, plus any other activities you participate in. So, even though you want a little dog that likes to exercise, will you have enough time to make sure the dog gets the exercise it needs? Every day? If not, you need to consider the other people who will also be responsible for taking care of the dog. Big dogs aren't necessarily lazy, either. If you look at information on the various breeds, you will find that most larger breeds (I'm assuming you're talking Labs and Goldens, not GIANT breeds like Great Danes or St. Bernards) all require a fair amount of exercise.
Lots of big dogs are plenty lazy in the house but love to take the humans biking, jogging and hiking. Small dogs can be busy inside and drive people nuts. I suspect that is why your parents want a large dog.
You will love any dog your family ends up with. Really!
I recently found a really fun website that may help you and your family choose the right breed, or the right mix of breeds, to meet your preferences: dogtime.com
At the top of the screen, click on Find Your Match, then answer the questions on the screen. If you and your parents both take this quiz, you will probably find some breeds that are a good match for everyone - or, at least, a compromise that meets some of your desires and some of theirs.
Once you know what breeds/mixes you're looking for, this website also has a Dog Finder feature that will show you dogs that need adoption, near your zip code, based on the results of the Find Your Match quiz! Cool, huh? Rescuing a dog is such a good thing to do - you will save him/her from the shelter, and the dog will love you for it.
I wish you and your family the best in finding the perfect companion. Good luck!
