Please don't take this as being rude. In general, dogs don't know when they do something wrong. Think about it this way, if you moved to another country and didn't speak their language, how would you know what they wanted you to do or if you did something they didn't like. They wouldn't just pop you one. At least I hope they wouldn't. Dogs are more willing to please and learn if you have patience and use positive training. Good Luck with your pup! :)

Sorry, but I have raised hundreds of puppies over the years and they were all well behaved, social, obedience trained adults, WITHOUT ever resorting to hitting them.
Just because you are bigger than they are doesn't give you the right to hit them.
