Maltipoo

Whether you consider it a perk or a financial expense, one fact of life when owning a Maltipoo is that they need haircuts. And while you can go with one haircut style over and over again, why not enjoy one of the perks of a dog that needs a haircut by mixing it up from time to time?

Whether you’re looking to mix things up or are getting ready to take your Maltipoo for its first trim, we’ve highlighted nine great haircut ideas for you to consider.

If you want to keep your pup fresh between trims, invest in a gentle yet effective dog shampoo. A regular at-home grooming schedule will keep their dander and shedding at bay in addition to hydrating their skin and keeping their fur fluffy.

    The 9 Maltipoo Haircuts

    1. The Teddy Bear Cut

Signature Features:  Fluffy and curls around their entire body
    Coat Length: Long

Teddy bears are adorable, and you want an adorable Maltipoo, so it only makes sense to give them a teddy bear haircut! The teddy bear haircut involves curls throughout the entire body. This gives them a soft and fluffy appearance throughout, especially around their face.

However, while it’s a pretty great haircut for most Maltipoos, not every Maltipoo out there has the necessary hair type to pull off the cute curls that are necessary for this haircut.

    2. The Miami

Signature Features: Fluffy ears, fluffy around the paws, and fluffy on top of the head while everything else is cut short
    Coat Length: Short

The Miami is pretty similar to a poodle cut, and it’s not for everyone. It’s all about leaving plenty of fluff right on the top of their head, cutting between the ears and the top of the head, and then cutting just about everything else short.

For an added flair, you can also leave some pom poms around their feet. We find this style adorable, and it gives your Maltipoo a little more flair, but there’s no denying that it won’t be for everyone.

    3. Summer Cut

Signature Features: Fluffy ears and top of the head, everything else cut short
    Coat Length: Very short

It’s hot during the summer, and one great way for a Maltipoo to cool off is to give them a short summer cut! Another perk of a summer cut for your Maltipoo is that it gives them more time for their hair to grow out before you need to take them back to the groomer.

It’s cool for the summer, saves you some money, and gives your fur baby a cute new hairdo. Just don’t cut it short like this during the winter months if you live in a colder climate; otherwise, you might find that your Maltipoo needs a jacket whenever you let it outside.

    4. The Lamb

Signature Features: Fluffy ears and head, slightly fluffy paws, everything else cut short
    Coat Length: Short

Lambs and cuteness just go together. With a lamb cut, it’s all about getting a slight curl to the ears while cutting everything else short, but not too short. It’s not the easiest cut for a groomer to pull off, but when they do it right, it’s one of the most adorable.

Do your homework on the groomer before taking your Maltipoo for this haircut, but if they do it right, be ready for your heart to melt the next time you see them.

    5. The Puppy Cut

Signature Features: Medium cut throughout, and a little extra fluff around their snout
    Coat Length: Medium

Puppies are sweet, innocent, and cute, so why not give your Maltipoo a cut that brings them back to their puppy days? A puppy cut is a medium cut throughout, with a little extra fluff around the snout.

To keep pulling off a puppy cut day after day, you need to keep their hair soft and brushed through, so this isn’t the easiest Maltipoo haircut to keep up with. But if you do the work, there’s no denying it’s extremely cute.

    6. The Maltese

Signature Features: Squared ears, fluffy face, cut close around the eyes, slightly fluffier paws, medium-length body
    Coat Length: Medium

Boxed ears and a clearly defined yet fluffy face are the signature marks of the Maltese haircut. The hair stays longer on the lower half of your Maltipoo’s face, and there are clear cut-outs around the eyes and the brim of the nose.

There’s a little fluff throughout the body, and it gets a little fluffier around the paws. But with the Maltese haircut, it’s all about the facial features.

    7. Fringes

Signature Features: Longer curled hair throughout and slightly shorter around the snout
    Coat Length: Long

The fringe haircut is a lot like the teddy bear haircut but with a few more signature traits, especially throughout the snout. To pull off this cut, the groomer needs to cut close around the eyes, slightly longer around the snout, and then layer the hair throughout the rest of the body.

It’s not an easy cut, and it will likely cost you a bit more than many of the other options we highlighted. Find the right groomer, though, and this is one of the most adorable Maltipoo haircuts out there.

    8. The Poodle Cut

Signature Features: Fluffy ears, fluffy around the paws and legs, and fluffy on top of the head while everything else is cut short
    Coat Length: Short

The Maltipoo is part poodle, so why not embrace that part of their lineage if they have the right genes? Keep the ears and top of the head fluffy and create some pom poms around their paws to top off this signature look.

If you want something to make it a little more unique, don’t cut the hair so close around the rest of the body so their curls can shine through. It’s a great look if your Maltipoo has Poodle-like hair.

    9. The Shih Tzu

Signature Features: Squared ears and face, and fluffy short hair throughout
    Coat Length: Medium

The Shih Tzu isn’t a part of the Maltipoo in any way, but with a similar style of hair, they can both pull off the same cute look! The Shih Tzu appearance is all about a squared face, ears, and paws, and a talented groomer can cut all those same signature features into a Maltipoo.

It’s up to you if you want to use a Shih Tzu look for a dog that isn’t a Shih Tzu, but there’s no denying that it’s an extremely cute look if that’s the way you want to go.
