Review Summary

Our Final Verdict

We give Kirkland Nature’s Domain food a rating of 3.1 out of 5 stars.

The Kirkland Nature’s Domain brand offers a limited number of dog food formulas in wet and dry varieties. At the moment, they seem to have about eight products available for dogs. However, they’re unsuitable for dogs who are on restrictive diets, have allergy issues, or suffer from other health conditions.

  • Kirkland Nature’s Domain Dog Food Reviewed

Kirkland’s human-grade dog food products are made in its manufacturing facility. All products are listed as pathogen and contaminant-free. Though these products rank on the lower end in terms of quality, they can provide sustainable nutrition for your dog, whether a young pup or a mature age.

Overall, the brand falls into the middle in terms of quality compared to other brands. Kirkland’s dog food prices are on the low side, which helps give it a great selling advantage.

Who Makes Kirkland Nature’s Domain Dog Food and Where Is It Produced?

The Nature’s Domain brand belongs to the Kirkland Signature line of pet food products and supplies. Diamond Pet Foods manufactures the dog foods. All these companies are under the Costco private brand.

The brand rose to prominence in 1995 when Costco merged all of its private-label products into one brand. Kirkland Nature’s Domain Dog Food products are manufactured in their Washington state-based headquarters and are easy to find in local Costco stores or via their online site.

You can also find many of the products at Walmart and on Amazon. Costco seems to have limited retail options available for its brand, which makes sense, given that it’s a private label.

How Much Does Kirkland Nature’s Domain Dog Food Cost?

One of Kirkland’s advantages is its prices. For example, a 35-lb bag of dry dog food costs less than you’d pay for other high-quality brands, such as Royal Canin. Kirkland’s 12-pack of 7-oz cans of wet food is very affordable, which is excellent considering top-tier brands charge around the same price for smaller cans.

Which Type of Pet Is Kirkland Nature’s Domain Dog Food Best Suited For?

Kirkland Nature’s Domain dog food products are ideal for most dogs of various breeds and ages. However, they may not be recommended for dogs on special diets, with allergy issues, or with specific nutrient requirements. On a positive note, the brand seems to have an ample amount of protein in most of its wet and dry food formulas.

Kirkland Nature’s Domain Dog Food Primary Ingredients

Kirkland’s meals include either salmon, chicken, turkey, or beef as the main protein. However, they also include beneficial vegetables and other grains, including peas, potatoes, flaxseed, chicory root, and berries.

Both wet and dry food products include probiotics, vitamin E and D supplements, and amino acids. So, it appears that the nutritional content in many of their recipes is good enough for most canines. However, it doesn’t look like the company produces organic, sustainable, or whole food ingredients in any of its recipes—at least not at the time of this review.

    Kirkland Dog Food Recall History

Kirkland has had several (seven) recalls, many of which were in 2012. Various dog food formulas were recalled, but the Super Premium Adult Dog Lamb, Rice & Vegetable Formula experienced a significant number of recalls. All of the Kirkland dog food recalls were related to potential Salmonella poisoning and were initiated by the company themself.

    What Other Users Are Saying

Users seem to have mixed thoughts on Kirkland’s dog food. Many note that the price is great, especially since organic and whole-food dog food products have dominated the market, causing price hikes.

The main complaint was that there were limited recipe options. As stated, this brand doesn’t produce recipes for a restricted diet or a dog suffering from health issues. So, it’s best to consider this if your dog is older, sick, or obese.

Here are a few notable reviews that we found:

Costco: “Average food, there are better out there for less. Lookup every food you ever feed your dog and do research, it is easy now that you can pull up dog food advisor on your phone in the store”

Amazon: “Smells pretty good, dogs like it, pretty good list of ingredients and value.”

Amazon: “I cannot rate the flavor because, honestly, I won’t taste it, but the dog loves it! I love the consistency of this food as it is not solid and makes it easy to mix with her dry kibble. Also, you can see the veggies in it … that is a plus.”

    Conclusion

The Kirkland Signature Nature’s Domain dog food brand appears to be a good option for dog owners who are looking to save money and aren’t concerned about brand recognition. The meals have a decent nutritional profile but lack variety and flavor options.

There also aren’t any options for restricted diets, specific breeds, or dogs suffering from obesity. However, if your dog is in good health, Kirkland’s dog food can be great as a daily meal or occasional snack.
