Tips for Choosing the Best Name

It probably goes without saying that you should avoid using offensive names for your pet. Undoubtedly, you’ll sometimes have to call your dog to your side in public. Likewise, avoid ones that sound like commands, like sit or stay. The last thing you want to do is to confuse your pup. You should also make it something everyone in your household can pronounce.

That doesn’t mean you can’t get creative. After all, you or someone you know probably have a nickname that is more fitting than their given name. Short and sweet is also the name of the game. We suggest thinking of choices with which you have positive associations. It’ll come through in your relationship with your dog.

Finally, don’t think you must name your pup right away. A new pet isn’t going to make the connection of what you’re calling out of the gate. Take some time to get to know your pooch. The chances are their personality will provide all the intel you need to pick the best one.

Conclusion

Choosing your dog’s name is a big deal, and it’ll form the basis of your relationship with your pet. Humans associate specific words with certain traits and behaviors, and your choice is the manifestation of all these things.

We suggest you give careful thought to naming your pup the latest popular trend. They come and go as quickly as the weather changes. Instead, make it something that will last and describe your pet throughout its life with you.
