“Barker Field is a fenced, multi-acre dog park situated in Byrd Park's southeast corner. Dog owners utilize the park in all weathers. There are usually several dogs there, often dozens, and sometimes several dozen milling and chasing around the park. http://pets.groups.yahoo.com/group/BarkerFieldRegulars/”

Barker Field--Go early

We've been here a few times. While it's a nice facility, people aren't always careful about using the gates. I've seen dogs let out and the offender didn't go after them. I have found that if you go early in the day, it's a more conscientious group of people. The earlier group tends to keep an eye on their (and your) dogs. They are also a lot friendlier.

Fun place.. when I feel like I'm in the mood to romp and play! All around great!

Bully

I love the parks in Richmond, however my dog has had his A$$ handed to him the last few times we have gone to Barker Field. Sometimes there are a good group of people, responsibly watching their dog, and sometimes it just a bunch of bullies. People are not that good at cleaning up after their dog, there's a lot of poo around the play area.
