“The Providence Animal Rescue League is a private 501 (c) (3) organization serving Providence and the state of Rhode Island. The League’s mission is to provide for the rescue and relief of suffering of homeless animals and perform charitable or benevolent acts for the welfare of animals. The League accomplishes its mission by: * Providing appropriate shelter and humane care for homeless animals * Reducing pet overpopulation through strict spay/neuter measures * Seeking permanent, responsible homes for adoptable pets * Providing a diversity of humane education programs to meet community needs The League has been dedicated to the care and welfare of animals and humane education for more than 90 years. During that time, our mission has grown from a shelter for stray and abandoned animals to a center for animal welfare that includes animal rescue and adoption, educational seminars, animal training, state and national participation in policies affecting animal care and a spay/neuter initiative called “Operation Cleansweep,” that now includes an in-house surgical clinic and a state of the art Veterinary Mobile Operating Room (V.M.O.R.) Unit to assist communities throughout the state to overcome animal overpopulation. The League has led the way in recognizing and implementing new ideas regarding shelter care and animal behavior. We are especially proud of our staff which provides expert care in all aspects of our services. Our volunteer programs also involve all levels of animal care, humane education and community outreach. If you are interested in assisting us in our mission and volunteering or you have a concern to be addressed, please go to “Contact Us” and select the appropriate staff member to assist you. Naturally, as a non-profit organization that relies upon adoption fees and the generosity of community to fund our work, we encourage any financial support to assist us with our mission. We accept both monetary and in kind donations and also have a planned giving program. We appreciate your interest in the League and its many diverse programs and services that we offer to our community. I encourage you to explore this site and visit us at our location at 34 Elbow Street in Providence.”
