“The Humane Society of Ocean City is a private, non-profit (501c) organization located in Ocean City, New Jersey. HSOC operates a truly "No-Kill" Animal Shelter; a low-cost spay/neuter clinic; and a humane educational center. Since 1964, HSOC has proudly served Ocean City and surrounding communities in Atlantic and Cape May counties. Our Shelter has rescued and cared for many stray or abandoned pets. HSOC strives to place its homeless residents into good, loving homes. For unwanted pets, HSOC provides them a safe, clean, and happy home in the Shelter for the rest of their precious lives. In September 2002, HSOC opened a new building for spay/neutering and humane educational services. The local public is welcome to bring their pets and apply for spay or neuter appointments for affordable fees. The clinic has state-of-the-art medical equipment , staffed by a licensed veterinarian and professional assistants. The educational center holds classes and shelter tours for children and young adults on the proper treatment and dignified respect for all animals. The center is staffed by dedicated volunteer teachers who effectively convey to young minds an understanding and appreciation of pet guardianship. There are other ways we help pets, as you will learn by reviewing the many areas of our website. And with your financial support and volunteer efforts, we can transform our hopes into realities. We stand by our motto: "You've Gotta Have Heart!" ”

The best Shelter around

This is the kind of shelter that all shelters should try and emulate. It really is the nicest one I've seen. God Bless all the people that keep it going.

"A Truly No-Kill Shelter"

The HSOC is possibly the best example of a small, non-profit, locally-run animal shelter I have ever seen. The staff is kind and caring and they really believe in what they are doing. The facility itself is immaculately clean, open & airy and full of sunshine for the pups and kittys to enjoy! The HSOC is a no-kill shelter and that is what I admire most about the organization. The HSOC holds many public outreach events all year round to benefit their wonderful shelter and help educate the public. The event that Jay-Jay and I participate in is called "Barks on the Boards" (held Memorial Day weekend.) Hundreds of dog and their people show up on this ONLY day that dog are allowed to strut on the board walk. The canine strutters raise loads of $$$ for the shelter through a small registration fee and their sponsors donations. It is a wuffderful day filled with fun, contests, prizes and puppers! For the last two years (2006 & 2007) thanks to all of his generous Dogster pals, Jay-Jay has been the top pledge raiser for the event. We hope to be able to support the shelter for as along as we can!!!!
