I'm not a one-eyed dog!

Mom says I'm "the dog who doesn't heal." I don't know what she means, but she says that when most dogs get fleas it doesn't cost $300. And that most dogs don't rip the bandages off their broken toes 6 times in two weeks. And that when their broken toes get set, they stay set. What fun is that?

Anyway, in November she gave me a bath. She used tearless shampoo, and Succotash didn't have any problems, but I did. We don't know if she didn't get all the soap out of my eyes, or if I scratched it when I ran around the house like the Tasmanian Devil and rubbed myself on the carpet, the sofa, Mom & Dad's bed, the ottoman, the towels I grabbed down from the hook in the bathroom... But I got a tiny corneal ulcer. When we went to our regular vet, she looked at it and said it was tiny and superficial and that with lots of antibiotics and special ointment for my eyes it would get better.

And most dogs do. All of them but me, apparently.

Instead it got worse. It got so bad that they talked about how my eye might die and have to be removed. As a last ditch effort, Dr. G sent me to NCSU-VTH to see Dr. Clode. They tried one kind of transplant and it looked good for two weeks. Then it "falled apart" as Mom says. But, the second one worked - and I have both eyes and I can see and all I have is a tiny little scar.

I like them. =)

NC State Veterinary

I really liked Dr. Arnold. He did the surgery on my leg and did a great job. He was very personable and really took the time to explain what was going on to my mom.

Veterinary care and diagnosis

We've had three pets who've had to be referred to the Vet School Hospital. One kitty went through Neurology, another went to Internal Medicine for chronic nasal discharge, this is a a frustrating illness and you can spend a lot of money without finding the cause and no effective cure. They wanted to go "full-tilt", CT scan, exploratory surgery, etc., it is a learning place and they wanted to find the cause. But they understood Mom's decision to manage the symptoms and not pursue invasive treatment. Our dog visited Dermatology, now that group rocks! She had an immune related condition and had to get meds from them and check-ups now and then. It's not cheap to go there, but they have tremendous experience and give great care.
