I'm not a one-eyed dog!

Mom says I'm "the dog who doesn't heal." I don't know what she means, but she says that when most dogs get fleas it doesn't cost $300. And that most dogs don't rip the bandages off their broken toes 6 times in two weeks, and use their e-collars as weapons to open wounds down to their bones. And that when their broken toes get set, they stay set. What fun is that?

Anyway, in November she gave me a bath. She used tearless shampoo, and Succotash didn't have any problems, but I did. We don't know if she didn't get all the soap out of my eyes, or if I scratched it when I ran around the house like the Tasmanian Devil and rubbed myself on the carpet, the sofa, Mom & Dad's bed, the ottoman, the towels I grabbed down from the hook in the bathroom... But I got a tiny corneal ulcer. When we went to our regular vet, she looked at it and said it was tiny and superficial and that with lots of antibiotics and special ointment for my eyes it would get better.

And most dogs do. All of them but me, apparently.

Instead it got worse. It got so bad that they talked about how my eye might die and have to be removed. As a last ditch effort, Dr. G sent me to NCSU-VTH to see Dr. Clode. They tried one kind of transplant and it looked good for two weeks. Then it "falled apart" as Mom says. But, the second one worked - and I have both eyes and I can see and all I have is a tiny little scar.

I like them. =)

Nice caring students!

Students here care about you (and some of them are good friends of Mom's - she works here as an RVT!)

NCS-VTH (NC State Veterinary Teaching Hospital)

Apparently there are two listings for this same facility, and we reviewed it in great detail under the other listing . But, just to reiterate -- this facility is WONDERFUL! Everyone -- from the client service personnel at the front desk to the students to the techs and surgeons -- cares so much about each animal who crosses their threshold. This facility is equipped to deal with ordinary concerns as well as terminal illnesses, and the doctors are forever thinking of improved ways of treating our problems. There is also a chaplain assigned to the hospital (he helped Mommy tremendously during Malaika's surgeries), as well as grief counselors who make sure that families who lose their angels are coping ok even months afterward. Very impressive, cutting-edge service with a lot of warmth and heart.
