“The 20,000 square foot Homestead Dog Park is now open. Your dog can run and play without a leash in this enclosed area in Homestead Park. The dog park is entered through a double gate to ensure safe release of dogs from leashes. The fence is 5 feet high to prevent dogs from escaping.

Glad it has a small dog area ...

I hold small dog meetup groups here in the small dog section, and it's nice that no one has to worry about registrations & screeening. Never had any aggression incidents, people seem to be wise to what dogs belong at dog parks & which don't. I like it here, just wish the small dog section was bigger, & that there was a waste can in it. I see one inside the large dog area, but none for us! Bummer! But, little dogs don't make that much poop, we just plan ahead & bring a pail.

Well used but nice people

This is a nice dog park, it is pretty big and the people here aren't wierd about bully breeds. The dog park is heavily used so it's impossible to grow grass, which is annoying with the mulch but not the end of the world (as long as your pups don't eat it!).

Just okay

I just realized that in all my dog park reviews, I really heavily favor screening and immunization proof into my rating. I definitely would have rated Homestead a lot higher if they required such information, but they don't. They're quite a bit smaller than the Anderson Dog Park in Carrboro, but I've had much better experiences here. They have a separate area (with a separate entrance) for the small dogs, but it really is teeny. For the most part, folks are good about cleaning up after the dogs and doing their part to keep the park nice. There is a water bowl there, so if you forget to bring your own water it's okay. My dogs really liked playing around the rocks, which are a nice aesthetic addition. The people who use this park are really nice, and seem to have a better head on their shoulders about dog park etiquette than at Anderson. Unfortunately, this park was much farther from our Carrboro apartment than the other one, so we didn't come out here as much as we could have. Oh, and for dog owners with older kids, there are batting cages and a skate area in the park proper so kids can play while your pup exercises. There are some nice picnic areas with grills, too. It's a great place for the whole family, and a good place to let Fido blow off some steam before the family barbeque.
