“The cornerstone of the Apex Parks system is the 160-acre Community Park. The park includes picnic shelters, playground, fishing lake, concession, restroom facilities, nature and fitness trails, and various athletic fields. ”
The best walking spot aroundHaving explored virtually all of the greenways and trails near Raleigh and Cary, this is by far our favorite. Great place to meet other dogs, and a perfect mix of paved and unpaved portions. We've been walking here for years, and we make it out there at least once a week. If you see us, don't hesitate to say hey! |
Beutiful lakeside walkAnother one of my favorite places to hike, and oh the birds!! They almost overtake the squirrels for my attention. Between this hike and the one at Hemlock Bluffs we get a nice variety in our outdoor excursions. It doesn't hurt that every so often someone stops you to tell you what a cute puppy you are or to share a cool website with your mom so she can get you cool gear! |
Great Place for Exercise!Mom's a wimp. She hates having to clean our feet after a nature walk, and most places around here get muddy when it rains. So on less-than-ideal days, she ponchos up and we head out to the Apex Park. There is a 2-mile trail around the lake that we love to hike. It's nice--asphalted (hence no muddy paws), various waterfowl to ogle, a doggie and human water fountain, poop bags galore, and lots of trash cans. Also, there are two entrances--one on Laura Duncan Road, and the other on Lake Pine. The trail is marked out every quarter mile, so sometimes Gretta and Mom go out there to run. It's an easy hike, and we always see a ton of other friendly dogs, and so many dachshunds it's hysterical! There are a couple of "off road" shoots, and we've explored them a few times. One goes down by the lake through the woods, and it's a nice quarter mile off-trail excursion. Lots of stuff to sniff and trees to mark. There are a couple others at one end of the lake, but watch out if it's been raining! One involves crossing a little brook, but it is really difficult when it's high and rushing! We love Apex Park, and it's a great place for a laid back walk, a run, and a great way to spend a weekend afternoon. 1 pet found this review helpful |
