AHS is the place that saved the lives of Apollo AND Luis. Their adoption facilities are not up to pet hotel standards (the average stay is only 1 week), however they are able to get a huge number of animals adopted. They constantly have volunteers assisting potential adopters and exercising the dogs. The most amazing aspects of the organization are the most subtle ones. EVERY single cat/dog/rabbit is sterilized before being put up for adoption. For cats and rabbits, the adoption price is less than the cost of spaying or neutering the animal. Even baby animals are fixed before being adopted out (there is a procedure that can be done when they hit a certian weight). My boys could tell you personally about the last AND BEST aspect of AHS, The FOSTER CARE! The last e-mail I got about it stated that there were about 145 foster homes available for animals at the humane society. I am a foster parent, and my boys would not be alive if the foster care was not around (read their story on my page). This wonderful service provides a place for MANY animals that are too young/sick/hurt/etc. for adoption to be able to grow/heal in a home enviromnent until they are able to be adopted. Foster parents also provide the love that the animals need to be the affectionate animals that will thrive in a new home.

Do not like this shelter

aside from the cute pets they have here, i do not like this place. they don't give dogs anything to sleep on besides cold floor and alot of dogs get callusing from it. very rarely do i see a dog with a toy and all too often dogs sit for long periods of time in their on poop filled cage. i went here to volunteer and when i found alot of "behind the scene" things they do here i turned it down, i even turned down a paying job here. i can not stand this place as a company. you would think with all the money they keep raising they would have a nicer place and a spot of dogs to play and run outside. blah.

AHS Coon Rapids

Another little shelter that packs a punch - this bitty shelter offers dogs, puppies, cats, kittens, cat rooms and little critters. Tho it may be small, it's nice and new.
