“"The park is also one of the places in West Des Moines you can find the most happy dogs in town. The Dog Park opened in 2004 and provides approx. 12 acres of fenced area for dogs to run free. The facility is open each day from 6:30 a.m. until dusk and features areas for both large and small dogs. The park, located just to the east of the softball complex, is also a great place to meet other dog lovers and enjoy each others pets. Users are asked to purchase a Dog Park permit to utilize the facility. Permits are available at the Parks and Recreation Administrative Office (4200 Mills Civic Parkway) or the Raccoon River Park Nature Lodge. (Proof of parvo/distemper and rabies vacinations is required to purchase permits) Permits are good for one calendar year (January through December) and range in price from $15 for West Des Moines residents to $30 for non-residents. West Des Moines residents must also have a current city pet licence to use the park. Proceeds from the sale of permits provide funding to maintain and enhance the dog park.
