When my 16 year old poodle dislocated his hip, my vet referred me to Dr Hay. Since I could not get the day off from work, he allowed me to drop Pepper off, and leave him overnight. He called me at work, and told me what the xrays showed, and what options I had. I decided to have Pepper undergo surgery. Dr Hay performed the surgery that afternoon, and called me immediately afterwards to tell me how it went. There were technicians with Pepper all night, and I was able to call anytime throughout the night to get an update, and find out how he was eating, did he take his medications, etc. I was able to pick him up the following morning, and Pepper was up and walking within hours of getting home. I could call anytime of day or night with questions or concerns. The cost was much less than other specialists in the area, and it included the meds, tests, and follow-up appointments. Pepper has since passed away from a combination of heart, kidney and neurological problems, but Dr Hay gave Pepper a good final year of mobility. I would definately recommend him.
Dr. Hay is the surgeon that took care of me when I first came to DARE. He has completed 2 surgeries on me and without him I never would have walked again. He has been seeing me for a year, but he has never lost patience with my case, and getting me walking has been his top priority. And he was so excited when he heard I was walking now. His staff is exceptional too, they all love on me and spoil me, even when I first came and was still terrified of strangers and tried to nip at everyone. I LOVE THEM ALL!
Wonderful, caring, professional staff. Nick was diagnosed with OCD (Osteochondritis Dissecans) in his right shoulder. Our vet recommended VSS and specifically Dr. Callum Hay. Nick was operated on in June '06 when he was 10 months old. Dr. Hay is the best! Not only a skilled surgeon but was incredible during all six follow up visits. Nick had a somewhat difficult recovery since he is so active ( wouldn't tolerate the bandages, collar, etc. he was a pain!) and Dr. Hay was always kind and patient with him and reassuring with us. Everything that Dr Hay did or suggested worked and was great and Nick is strong and healthy with full range of motion and activity. We give VSS an unqualified recommendation and in particular Dr. Hay who is not only a wonderful surgeon but also has a very special connection to animals!posted: February 22nd, 2007
