Sleep now, take- over the world- later

Time for another round of Janie's parents getting worried about her health! Yay!
Last night while Janie was sleeping we woke her up and saw that she 'leaked' on the couch. It was quite a lot, enough to get a couch cushion pretty damp. It didn't smell like pee (or poo for that matter) and didn't have the same color, so I'm not sure what it is. It happened to her once before about a week or two ago. The previous time, we woke her up and saw that it was still happening while she was awake, but she didn't seem to mind too much. She even licked it, which is another reason I don't think it's pee. A few weeks before I saw that it happen, but it was only a few drops, so I didn't think much of it.

So what is it? I would say it's incontinence, but like I said above, it doesn't smell/look like urine and Janie doesn't seem to think it is either...

So confused... any ideas? We're planning on taking her to the vet to make sure. I'm hoping it's nothing too serious.

Janie, first, dogs will lick their pee and think nothing of it. Second, my chow has had sleep related incontinence at times. It seems with her she will pinch a nerve in her back that is connected to the sphincter muscle in her urethra which results in her releasing urine when she relaxes. It eventually heals after a week or so. I think she pinches it when she jumps up/down from the bed the wrong way. But it also seems to have happened when I've had to make her wait more than 8 or 9 hours too many times in a row. (I don't know how so many people just give their dogs two walks a day.) I'm guessing the fact that my first vet spayed her too early didn't help. But, it didn't start until Kali was 8 or 9 years old.

I'd still check it out if I were you.

Our Katie girl would leak when she had a urinary infection. It happened only occasionally when she was young, but when she got old, it happened quite often. It's something you should get checked.

Humans are so- hard to train

I would take her to the vet. We have had similar problems with one of Yuuki's sisters. It is usually a UTI. Sometimes they can kick it on their own, but ours usually need antibiotics.

Raven, Yuuki's oldest sister also takes an natural hormone replacement called DES (I'd have to look it up to remember what that is) but it seems to have helped too.

A correction DES is a synthetic HRT. DES stands for Diethylstilbestrol. It is synthetic estrogen.

Henry had a leaking spell once, too, and it was b/c he had an infection in the prepuce. So, I would take her to the vet.
