Guide dog attacked

The Service and Therapy Dog forum is for all service and therapy dogs regardless of whether or not their status is legally defined by federal or state law, how they are trained, or whether or not they are "certified." Posts questioning or disputing a person's need for a service or therapy dog, the validity of a person's service or therapy dog, or the dog's ability to do the work of a service or therapy dog are not permitted in this forum. Please keep discussions fun, friendly, and helpful at all times.

I have to admit, I bawled my eyes out watching that video... being partnered with guide dogs for many years now it really hit home for me. I've known many good friends whose guide dogs have been brutally attacked by uncontrolled dogs... the OWNERS' faults, not the dogs' faults.

As upsetting as the situation/video is, I chose to click the link... the OP gave a link to an article, not the video. Anyone who clicked the link had the choice to view the video, and many did even though there was a warning that it was GRAPHIC. Although it was a horrible incident, as someone else posted there was NOTHING gory or bloody yadda yadda. IMO it shoudn't have been "bathed".

Dogster gets a little trigger happy with a LOT of posts, such a shame.

It's all well and good to post great lighthearted stories, positive experiences & enjoy sharing the fun stuff, but it's important to discuss the not so nice stuff that goes on in the world of SDs as well, and this guide dog attack is one of them.

I'm glad I saw this thread before Dogster zapped the link. Was just in a rush last night so didn't get a chance to reply 'til now.

Just FYI, I'm pretty sure posts automatically get that "bathed" thing on them not long after someone 'notify's them - I don't think HQ puts that there to say, "This was bad" but rather as a way of saying, "Someone had a problem with this post so we're hiding it just in case until we can make sure that it's OK." That's always how I understood it, anyway. shrug

Rudy Patudy, you are such a cute pup, but I have a really difficult time understanding what you've written...do you think maybe you could do a "Mom translation" on that for those of us who don't know how to figure it out? hug

I say, this post here was way more appropriate than a lot of what goes down in the Laws and Legislation forum. It shouldn't have been bathed. If you're young, squeamish, or easily offended by these kinds of posts- you should ignore them and let the people who are interested in learning more about what happened take the time to discuss the issue rather than jump in and bathe, bathe, bathe. I understand that Dogster is a fun, loving place- but really, we can't protect kids from everything. There's even gore in the Food forums of euthanized animals being ground up into food. It's just the real world. And parents should know that before sending their kids out onto the internet. It just depends on how mature their kid is and how they can handle the material that is put before them. Of course, we don't want Dogster to turn into some disgusting adult website, but really, isn't that the risk parents take when they let their kids onto the internet? Things aren't always going to be peaches and cream. That's the way life is. Deal with it.

Lisa and Byron, the guy ( if found ) could well face criminal charges based more on the fact he had a "pitbull type" dog that was deemed a danger to public. Although Pitbulls are banned here, they are still imported by more irresponsible people from Ireland.

The following is from the DDA...

What are the conditions of owning a pit bull type apart from having the dog registered

A. The dog has to be neutered, microchipped, tattooed and insured. Also, no person shall:-
Breed, or breed from, the dog
Sell or exchange the dog or offer, advertise or expose the dog for sale or exchange
Make or offer to make a gift of the dog or advertise or expose the dog as a gift
Allow the dog to be in a public place without being muzzled and kept on a lead
Abandon the dog or allow it to stray

A police man in charge of the case said this..

"Unfortunately, these types of attacks occur on a daily basis in London. I hear of family pets and other dogs being killed, mutilated or scarred for life as well as people being attacked or intimidated".

"That is why I am calling for tougher penalties for owners who allow their dogs to be aggressive toward others. Serious penalties will make dog owners think twice, but it is also time for us to have a national debate on how to deal with these canine weapons.

From that last paragraph i'm gathering that as of now there is no serious penalties be this an attack on a normal dog or a guide dog. But like i said the guy faces more criminal charges against the fact he had a "pitbull type" dog.

Ando don't you understand what G rated means....It means It is supposed to be safe for any age child to play safely without parent supervision...what can't you understand about that...

Yes parents are responsible for what their children watch and see on the internet and that is why their are parental controls on computers to block content...This Site is G Ratedthat means parents should not have to put a block to keep their kids off it so pups like you can and others can post what they want....

Rudy, I know you think it's cute, but some members of this forum have conditions that keep them from being able to read your posts. The respectful thing to do would be to post normally. I can't see your posts reading too well on a screen reader either.
