Mom and Dada received my portrait from Terry Stanley yesterday.This evening my mom and Dada will go to the same place where they had made the frame for Lassie and it will be a similar frame like Lassie's.I am so excited to hear that.


Oh my dog, it really looks wonderful.We love it!

Oh Madeline I am so sorry!!!! I hope you know you gave Zippy the best gift of all - a truly happy home where she felt welcome and cherished. The fact that it was only a couple of days doesn't matter - it was the gift that lasted a lifetime for her and she'll be joyfully playing with Lassie at the bridge. I will be honored to paint her. Lassie's portrait truly does have a place in my heart - she was the first "angel" I painted and you truly touched me when you wrote that you and your husband both felt she'd come home to you in her portrait. (I'm tearing up again just thinking about it).

I looked at Zippy's page on Dogster - it was nice to see who I am assuming are you and your husband! If those people are you, you are younger than I'd imagined.
I will be in touch in a couple of weeks. I do hope you continue to open your hearts and home - now you have two angels to pick out and send their earthly surrogate for you to love!

Dear Terry,

First off, we feel truly and deeply honored as you have featured our beloved Lassie in your web-page header. The other portraits are really beautiful too.

I am also writing to you as I have yet another request for a portrait for my dear Mira. After Lassie’s passing we started volunteering at the local pet shelter here called BSPCA. We had been going there for about little over a month now. Every time we were there we contemplated about fostering one of the dogs there but could never make up our minds.

Last Friday (April 3rd) however all that changed. It had been raining (yes it does rain here sometimes). As we entered the shelter a sweet little puppy that was completely drenched came up to us tail wagging, very excited and settled down at my feet. We hadn’t seen her the week earlier and were later told that she was one of the three puppies found abandoned about ten days earlier but were quarantined until this morning. Her name was Juniper. Her siblings were Zack and Zippy.

My husband then decided to clean off the dirt from these puppies by hosing them down and I went about drying them. Zippy was shivering a lot so I dried her, wrapped her up in a dry towel and carried her around. She fell asleep in my arms. We later decided to foster Zippy and brought her home. She wasn’t in great shape considering she was just about ten weeks old. She was however very playful, just like little puppies are.

We got her home, gave her a bath, fed her. She was a great puppy, very smart and a quick learner. She got used to the newspapers very quickly and knew exactly where to go.

She was coughing and periodically having a foul odor from her mouth. We were of course in touch with the shelter, keeping them updated about Zippy whom we had now rechristened as Mira. Sunday morning we were told that Zack, her brother had to be put down due to parvovirus. It was a shock to us and we feared that Mira was suffering from the same virus. As the day progressed Mira was actually getting worst from the inside. But from the outside she was still a very playful little girl. By the evening though she started coughing even more and getting blood in her stools. We were devastated by this. Monday morning we visited the vet and he told us that she had indeed been affected by the parvovirus and the best thing would be to put her down. We couldn’t make this decision as foster parents, so the shelter manager directed the vet to do so.

Mira our sweet little baby is gone now. She was with us for three days. She gave us much joy and happiness and hope she felt our love too.

Thank you for the LOVE

Mom and I would like to thank everyone for the Love,support,poems and gifts that I have got. It helps to know that so many are praying and thinking of us.I had 3 great days with my family and made so many new pals on Dogster. I love everyone here.

Please pray for my 2 siblings Zack(R.I.P) and Juniper(R.I.P).we will be taken care of by our big fur sis Lassie at the Rainbow Bridge.

Please say a little prayer to all the puppies at the shelter BSPCA.We pray that they will be safe from parvovirus.

MIRA- HAS GONE TO THE RAINBOW BRIDGE

Zippy who we rechristened as Mira came home with us from the BSPCA on Friday April 3, 2009. She was a gorgeous darling, a very smart puppy and a very quick learner. She was learning my commands with ease.

She wasn’t in the best of health when we got her; her gum's were gray and she even had ticks (I discovered them the next day).In spite of this she had loads of energy. She had received her shots the Monday earlier and hence we were told that her poop would be runny. She also had kennel cough. So we got her home and I gave her a bath, feed her and in general she was doing all the things a puppy does.

She was great on Saturday, eating her food drinking water, playing etc. but since yesterday she started having bloody poop which got us worried. We were regularly letting the BSPCA know about Mira’s daily activities and considering our past experiences expressed the fact that she needs to see a vet as soon as possible.

Hence we had the appointment this morning (April 6, 2009) at 11.30am and the doctor after examining Mira conclusively told us that she was infected with the Parvovirus and there was nothing that can be done for her. His conclusions were based on the fact that her siblings had the same virus, she was having a foul odor from her mouth and the pictures of her poop also reconfirmed our fears. He said that there was nothing he could do to help her.

He also called the BSPCA to inform them about his findings and they gave him the go ahead to put her to sleep. We had no clue that Parvovirus was prevalent in Bahrain and got a real shock when the vet informed us that they have had several cases recently of pets coming in with the Parvovirus.

Mira is gone now and is with Lassie at the rainbow bridge. She gave us a lot of joy in the short time she was with us. I was by her side every single night to watch over her. My sleeping time was when dada came home back from work. He used to watch her then and play with her.

As for us our home is empty again, our hearts crushed as we have lost another one of our babies. Our only faith is that she is now free of any pain and having a blast with her siblings and of course Lassie at the rainbow bridge.

We love you Dear Sweet Mira. You will be missed.

Mira's 2 siblings have gone to the Rainbow Bridge (April 4, 2009 Saturday- at the BSPCA) positive for parvo.we are very devastated to hear the news this morning.

Now we are worried,scared and sad for Our foster baby MIRA she is showing signs as well. She have bloody diarrhea last night and is coughing too.

We are going back to the clinic for check up and blood work done.

My First day with my Foster Mom and Dada

MIRA who was originally known as ZIPPY was found with her two siblings abandoned on the side of a street in a place called Jasra here in Bahrain. They were rescued by a good Samaritan on March 24, 2009 and were dropped off at the BSPCA.

Zack and Mira look quite similar although Zack's facial markings are much darker and his paws are white at the tips. Mira has black paws in the front and her rear paws are white tipped. Her facial markings are much lighter. Juniper is a slightly different looking sibling of Mira who also is extremely hyperactive. Juniper has a white streak on her forehead without any tan markings.

when we arrived at the BSPCA this morning for our routine Friday morning dog walk, we were pleasantly greeted by a hyper puppy who was Juniper. Due to some real crazy weather here, it had been raining all morning and Juniper was wet and dirty. So were all the other puppies that were out of the puppy pen. We rinsed them all and dried them off one by one. Mira was continually trembling too much even after being dried off so I decided to wrap her up in a dry towel and warm her up a bit. She eventually feel asleep on my chest and I kept pacing up and down the yard to keep her comfortable and warm. In the meantime Dada was helping out with the walks. As it had rained the ground was very muddy and slippery. The dogs were throwing up mud everywhere and Dada and the other volunteers were a sight to see.


At about 1:30 in the afternoon today ( April 03, 2009-Friday) we decide that we will foster Mira, one week at a time and brought her home.

On our way home she was sleeping the entire car ride. When we arrived home of course we introduced her to Lassie. Mira started crying after awhile as she was in a different environment and her siblings weren't around. She did settle down in awhile.She drank loads of water, pee and poop several times but didn't eat anything. We gave her a quick bath at about 4pm. She was also throwing up a clear liquid with some parts of a foamy stuff too. She is not very healthy I guess and hope she gets better.Her first pee was in the kitchen while her first poop was in the hall, the subsequent ones were in her designated area, formerly Lassie's toilet. what a nice girl. She does have diarrhea though. She is drinking lots of water but not eating anything. she doesn't play much but follows us every where. She likes to go into Lassie's room. We have put her in a cardboard crate which is lined with blankets. Her routine today has been mostly following us around, crying, playing a bit with the towel or toy then sleeping for about an hour. She even pulled on Dada's vest and also the strings of my chair cover. Then wake up and off I carry her to the toilet to potty train her with the newspapers.

Later in the evening at about 6:30pm we went out shopping for some puppy food, toys and blanket. of course we took Mira along with us for the ride, she slept most of it. I was doing the shopping while Dada waited in the car watching over Mira.

We came back home at about 8pm and she is now back to her routine.
We just pray and hope that her health gets better. Dada will be sleeping tonight but I wont as its Mira's first night here.I need to see what is her routine at night.

Are we ready yet?

Last Friday , mom was supposed to fill out the form for fostering but was so confused about which one of them to choose and then she suddenly she picked up one of the puppies who was around 3 months ( Tia) but then the shelter manager talked to mom not to be pressurized and stressed about choosing.

They ended up not taking any of the doggies home but mom and Dada had fun walking the doggies along with the other volunteers. She was talking to the doggies & crying too, she want to make a choice but I don't know whats with her?

MAMA:
OMD! Still we are undecided... lots of doggies who needed a Home and Family but can't take them all I guess that's makes me confused.I'm in a lot of stress about this, just to pick out one.

I personally love to have a Labrador or Rottweiler.Lassie is Labrador/ Rottweiler mix. We just hope that we would be able to decide tomorrow as we are going to the shelter. Wish us luck and hope Lassie will also help us to decide.
