Took Brandy to the vet last night (12-23-2009) in Elizabeth City, N.C. because she was drinking way too much water and just some other minor things that made us think she wasn't feeling too well. It's hard to tell with her because she just doesn't let on when something is wrong until it becomes very obvious. Anyway, took her to the vet to find out her ketone levels were in the upper 500's mg/dL. At that point I had to rush up to Chesapeake to a 24 hr emergency animal hospital where they put her on an IV drip and began working to bring her glucose levels down.

It broke my heart because I had to leave her and I don't know how long she will have to stay. Got a progress call this morning and the doctor said they got her glucose levels down to about 200 mg and she is eating fine and resting. I'll try to keep everything posted as I get it. I'm still trying to educate myself with all of this because it's all new to me.
