The Big P is one year old!

We celebrated Penny's birthday on Saturday - it was such a gorgeous day!
We sat on the deck all day and played ball in the yard. At supper time we got out our party hats and sang to the birthday girl.
Penny got a hamburger and even got to sit at the table and eat like a person! It was so cute and of course I took pictures.
Not sure if she knew what was going on, but we sure had a good time celebrating this milestone.
Here 's to many more wonderful years with our beloved Penny!

Vet Day

Today is our first trip to the vet. We got Penny shortly after she turned 8 months old. She had been recently spayed and was up to date with her shots.
As her first birthday is rapidly approaching, it's time to get settled into a vet. We had a snowstorm last week that forced me to postpone until today, however it worked in our advantage - her appointment is now at 3 pm, so I plan to pull my daughter out of school a 1/2 hour early so she can be there. It's a family affair.
Mommy has a list of questions for Dr. Carr. We need to figure out a better food for her, something to help with her giant shedding problem.
Also she needs her anal sacs drained. :)
And her pads have been very dry - almost to the point of cracking (especially the higher up pads - by her dew claws) - someone told me I could use vaseline on them, but I want to be certain.
I need heartworm medication.
And of course a rabies shot.
So wish us luck today as the big P-ster goes to the vet!

It's FREEZING!

Oh my goodness, the weather here changed big time on Monday. The morning was nice, in the 30's. Mom and I shoveled the driveway, and then went for a walk.
By noon the winds started howling and the snow was whipping all over and it hasn't let up since.
I peek my head out the door, but I'm not at all excited about going out. The snow is so deep I nearly get buried when I do out only to come in and shiver my hiney off.
This morning the thermometer read -27 this morning, with a wind chill of -45. BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

New year and I'm 9 months old!

Woof! I turned 9 months old on December 22nd, and had a howling good time for the holidays.
Santa left stuff for me, good stuff! I got a trachea, which is rather tasty and crunchy and I love it! Also a little duck, ducks are my favorite, and this one is my newborn child. I carry it around, making it squeak and cry when I can't find it. Mom thinks it's hilarious that this is the first toy I haven't destroyed. I would never harm my baby - and I'm a very good mommy.
For New Years my family went to a hotel, guess what?!?! I got to go too! They packed up and took me along and the kids had a blast making me jump from bed to bed. It was nice to not be left home alone and made me feel very loved. I even got to sleep with mom and dad. Dad hated it and says I'm a bed hog, but mom liked having my warm little body up against her. Maybe someday dad will come around.
New Years day was filled with naps and a nice long walk, it was very warm and nice outside. Mom even tried jogging with me (mom loves to jog) and I did so very well - I got lots of treats when we got home.
I got all bathed up in the evening and enjoyed some nice lounge time with mom and dad.
Happy New Year to all my Furends! I hope you enjoy the love I do this year!

Thursday night Football

Chargers are on tonight, that's mom's favorite team. She thinks the quarterback is a hottie, whatever that means.
Last night was another blast in our house. Dad commented at supper that all the people are laughing more than they ever did before I got here. Glad I can be a source of amusement.
I do enjoy all the attention, my kid and my dad come home first and play with me. Then a little while later my mom comes home and I will not let her talk without paying attention to me first.
Last night dad took me for a walk, it was cold, only 15 degrees outside, but I didn't mind. I love walks.
Then I had a bone, and then we played fetch. It was fun, by the end I was panting so hard. Mom and Dad thought that was funny cuz it looked like I was smiling. I was! :)

Hump do the Humpdy Hump, Do the Humpdy Hump - By Penny

Hump day in SNOWY Minnesota. I hate snow! Mom likes it. Says it makes it feel like Christmas is really coming.
I went on a nice long walk last night while it was still really warm out. Mom walked me and my kid walked along side. I pooped in the neighbors yard, I don't like to poop with the people watching me, but when you gotta go, what can you do?
I played with my mouse last night, and my bird a little. Dad tried to work on tricks with me, but I really just want the treats. He tells me things I don't understand and I just go through the motions of all the doggy things I think he may want me to do, and hopefully I get some food. If not, I lay on my belly and look cute, which he doesn't like, he apparently wants me to sit and start over. Whatever. It's a dogs life. He'll have to deal with it.
So, here's a virtual bone to all my peeps on Dogster.... WOOF.

Cat Toy Bandit

Well apparently cat toys are way more fun than dog toys.
Penny located and laid claim to a little mouse that has catnip in it for her very own.
It's so cute to see the little pink tail hanging out of her mouth as she drags it around the house, delivering it to all her favorite people (the 4 legged kind).
However it is not amusing for the cat to want her toy back, or even to sniff it and wonder why it's so wet. That will get Penny riled up - once it's hers its hers. So there!
We have found this is her favorite new toy to fetch, and last night she worked on "sit pretty". :)

Ba-da ba-da-da-da
Ba-da ba-da-da-da
Ba-da ba-da-da-da

Monday, monday (ba-da ba-da-da-da)
So good to me (ba-da ba-da-da-da)
Monday mornin, it was all I hoped it would be
Oh monday mornin, monday mornin couldnt guarantee (ba-da ba-da-da-da)
That monday evenin you would still be here with me

Thank you to the Mamas and the Papas for having that tune which is now stuck in my head.

So it's Monday, after a fun and relaxing weekend at home, it's back to work for the 2 legged members of the family (and yes school is work, even if my daughter says it's not!).

Penny had a fun day yesterday and for the first time she fell asleep under the covers with my daughter last night. My daughter goes to bed at 8 pm, and at 9 we went in to get Penny and let her out before putting her to sleep for the night. She was warmly snuggled under the covers snoring away.

I can't tell you how blessed I feel to have found her. She fits so perfectly into our family unit. We love you Penny!

Lazy Snowy Sunday

Well the snow/rain/ice started last night. Ick.
So it's an inside day today, perhaps we'll try a short walk, just to get her out a bit. Walking on the leash is going so well considering they hadn't worked with Penny at all.
We worked on rolling over last night.
Her foundness for bones is so amusing. She will just sit on the rug and chew and pull and chew and pull until it's almost gone. She's probably got the cleanest teeth in the family.
So it's a snuggle on the couch kind of day, Daddy will try to get her to cheer for the Vikings on Sunday night football.

Turkey Day

Penny had her first Thanksgiving with her new family. We had my brother and his fiancee over for lunch. We ate chicken parmesean with garlic bread and pasta, said what we were thankful for, played Wii and went for a walk with Penny.
She is getting better at sleeping through the night. She used to be kenneled with another dog, so I think she has had some separation issues. But we have found that by placing a blanket over her kennel we aren't awakened at 5 am (Penny that is too early!)
Walking is going well. It was 50 degrees here yesterday so we walked all over town working on heeling. She is so ready to learn and eager to please.
