What A Day !!!!!

Today I went with Mimi & Jade to a Swimming Pool for Dogs who need to strengthen their muscles. It was only a 20 minute drive from home, so not far for for us to get there. When we got there I was left in the car whilst Mimi & Jade went in and got ready. Jade had a Floatation Vest put on her, as she can get tired from all the energy she uses when swimming. Jade is an excellent swimmer and has never needed a Vest before, but she is getting on in her years and we thought it may help her in the pool. Mimi had her own Vest, as she is still learning how to Swim wthout being 'bum' heavy because of her long body.

After they had done some laps, Mum asked how a dog who had never swum, would go in the pool, as I was not keen on water or getting wet ( I don't like baths either). The lady said I should be ok, so Mum went and got me from the car. I barked a lot at the strange lady, but she did not mind and got me ready (she said I was cute :) ). I had a martingale collar put on and then a small Floatation Vest put on me. It had a handle on top so I was easy to pick up like a handbag !!. The nice lady carried me up to the end of the lap pool, and put me in the water with a long lead attached, so she could walk on the pool deck as I swam. I immediately started swimming back to Mummy who was so amazed that I was not panicking to get out. I swam like I'd done this many times before (but hadn't) down to her, she was so excited at my 1st Swim in a Pool.

I had a little rest while Mimi & Jade did more laps, and then I swam up & down the Pool with Mummy on the other end of the lead. I was swimming very well and trying to catch up to Mum but she walked quick and my little short legs were going as fast as they could, but I just could not carch up to her !!

After my Swims I was dried off in a towel and wriggled like a squirmy worm, making it hard for mum to get me dry, but I was excited and wanted to run around and get dry.
Mum says I can go back for more Swims and hopefully one day I won't need a vest, but until then I will be wearing one to get my confidence up.

What a great day it was !!!!

Lure Racing

Today Mummy took me out to KCC Park where they were having Lure Racing for any small breed dogs that like to chase things. She was not sure how I would go, as I am a bit of a 'wall flower' when it comes to going out in public.

When we got there I was given a number for my Races that I would be in for the day. All the First timers were allowed to have a couple of goes. Four of us at a time were put into these single boxes, which were closed behind us. That was scary as I could not see Mummy. Then she came in front of me but there was mesh wire stopping me from getting to her. Then Mummy walked away from me, about 110 yds away, Oooh I could hardly see her !!!

The wire cage door opened and I did not know what to do , I think I heard Mummy and started running towards her voice. There was lots of shouting from a long way up the other end, and the other dogs ran up to where the group of people were. I got half way and decided I would go back, as I could not find her.

In my 2nd Race I knew where Mummy was, so I ran really fast to where I could see her, & Aunty Manda, who were calling me.

For my 3rd Race we all had colored "scrunchies" around our necks, to match the color of the racing Boxes we were put in . When the gate was lifted I ran down the straight to where Mummy was. She was sooo pleased I came to her, even though I was last. My short little legs were making it hard for me to run on the grass, which was a bit soft and spongy, which is why all the others got to the end first. (they had longer legs !!)

The last run of the day we had to jump hurdles, well, big PVC Pipes about 3 inches high for us to jump over along the way. I jumped them all, and it made Mummy laugh as I was running as fast as my little legs could go, and my ears were flapping in the wind :)

Today was really fun and it gave me a good workout too.
Mummy will take me back again for some more racing as it is something I can do that the Big Dogs can't.

TONIMBUK- My Big Adventure

Yesterday I went for a Trip to Tonimbuk about 1 hours drive from where I live. The Property I went to is on the edge of the Bunyip State Park, here in Melbourne, which was where one of the biggest Bushfires was in February in our State. Mummy felt good about this place, and let me run free for the first time without worrying about me being hassled by other dogs.

There was a Sheltie (Lana) and two Golden Retriever's (Pip & Meg) owned by Mummy's friend who we met there, and of course Mimi , Jade and Me.
When I was let free I did not know what to do or where to go, so I did zoomies around the area where the Dam was. It was sooo much fun , I ran up & down, and around & around. I watched Mimi , Jade & the others play in the Dam while Mummy was up the top watching me & taking photos of my big adventure. It had been raining heavily a few hours earlier, so the ground was wet & my tummy got muddy very quickly :)
I also got to sniff some new smells that I hadn't smelt before - Kangaroos, Wombats, Foxes & Horses.

We went on a short drive to where the Busfires were, & these huge kangaroos went bounding across the road in front of us, to the paddocks on the other side of the road . I could easily have fitted in their pouch and be a Joey !!!
Wow, that would be like a roller-coaster ride with all that bounding about !!!!

After all the running around, Mummy went inside the house while I snooped around all the rooms. How great was that, a house that did not mind all the Dogs inside. At the end of the day we drove home and I slept nearly all the way. All that fresh air & running around, and playing with my new friends made me very tired.
I had the best day on the Property and will be allowed to go back whenever I want - How Cool is That !!!

See ya,

Scout

Big Day in The Backyard 17th December 2008

Today my Mum let me off without the Lead on in the Backyard. The yard is safe and I can't escape from it so she was happy to watch me chase after my Kong. Later on I went out with Jade but got so excited I started doing zoomies around her and teasing her like I usually do with my "pee wee" barks at her.
Next I played with Mimi and the big tug toy and we held onto an end each with Mimi having more strength than me so I was following her whilst still holding on - very funny. Mimi then got excited and started doing zoomies all around the backyard , I tried to catch her but she was too fast and I got pooped very quickly with my little legs finding it hard to keep up with her. What a great experience it was to be allowed to play without the lead on .

A Big 3 Days In December

Hi,

Wow, it 's been a busy 3 days for me.
On Saturday, 6th Dec, I went to Puppy Pre-School and I fell asleep under a chair !!! I learnt to do 'drops' & 'stand' & socialised with some other dogs.

On Sunday, (7th Dec) I went to my first Dachshund Fun Day at KCC Park. There were soooo many other Doxies there, around 30-40.
There were all types, Standards, Miniatures, Long Haired, Short Haired, Wire Haired, Dapples, Browns, Blacks, Creams, young and old :)

They had some Fun Events and I entered the 'Waggiest Tail' Contest, and I won !!! I won with the help of "Mimi', she was standing there watching me, and when I saw her, I got so excited & my tail started wagging really, really fast :) I got a pretty Blue Ribbon for 1st Place.

I was also entered in the Fancy Dresss, and we ALL won. There were some awesome costumes that other grown-up Dachy's had. I fell asleep in my mum's arms while they were judging (how embarassing !!).

The next day (Monday, 8th Dec) I went on my longest ride in the Van so far. I was taken to a great place to celebrate "Jade's" 10th Birthday Party. It's a Dog only 'Resort', called "Kepala", and we (Jade, Mimi and I) had the Lagoon area and Grassed area booked for 3 hours. We met up with some of Jade & Mimi's friends - Freddie (Hungarian Vizsla), Tashi (Tibetam Spaniel) & Henry (Cavalier KCS).

Being so small & not having swum before I wore a very stylish, & cute looking Life Vest. It was an XXS size, just the right size for me :) I didn't go in swimming with the other dogs, but I watched them having so much fun, splashing around, jumping, & ducking for toys. I paddled near the edge and got my feet wet, and I also went for a run & play in the grassed enclosure. The grass was soft and fun to run through, it tickled my tummy :)

It was a drive that was 88 kms each way !!! just for a Party - wow, Jade must be special :)

It's been a long day, so I'm off to bed now - Night, Night :)

My New Home

Yesterday was a big day for me, I was going to go to my NEW home with my Mum, who I was told was really excited to be getting me.
Around 11.15am Mum and my Auntie 'Manda arrived in their big K9 Doggy Van for me to go home in.
On the drive home we stopped off to get some Artemis Holistic Dry Dog Food for me , then to a Pet Store to get a new Harness, as the one I had on (the Cat's !!!) was too big for me, so we had to get another one a size smaller than what I had. Next we drove to the Supermarket to get some Non Dairy Yoghurt and Milk for my little tum tum- yummy !!!

Upon arrival at my new home, I was put out for a wee but I had already done a wee & poo poo in my Crate on the way home - it was such a long ride and I couldn't hold on any longer. Mum did not yell at me as she knew it was not my fault.

Then I got to meet Mimi & Jade , gee are they BIG !!! I was a little scared but later on when I met them on the ground we sniffed and said hello to each other. At least I will have 2 Big Bodyguards looking out for me !!!! Next I was shown my Playpen with about 4 toys in there waiting for me, boy am I spoilt !!!

After all the excitement of the day I was getting tired so was put into my Hexagonal Soft Crate for a well earned nap. I also met Poppy the cat. She is bigger than me, and not all that interested in me - yet !!
Ahhh, the life of being a Puppy , 3 square meals a day, being taken out to wee and poop, and an endless supply of toys for as long as the Opportunity Shops keep selling them.

My mummy even says I will become a 'seasoned traveller', by going with her & my Auntie Manda to all the Trials they attend - what a life I am in for !!

Bye for now,

"Scout"
