Merry Christmas! Hear our Lil' Christmas Miracle!

Mama was outside watching the world go by. It's still wind-breaker/light jacket weather here and we still have no snow so Mama was enjoying watching the cars, birds, and dogs being walked. Pretty soon, Mama heard a beep coming from down deeper in our neighborhood. She got up and walked to the end of the cul-de-sac. It only took a second to see why the beep was there. A car almost hit a mini shorthaired dachshund.

Mama jogged down and when she neared the little dachshund that was dressed in a little dirty dress, it started barking at her. That little dog had an attitude. I'm glad I'm not that bad! So Mama followed her until she had her in a little corner. She was tempted to leave this doggy alone, but it was almost hit by a car. That would kill a dachshund instantly! She had to do something! The only thing that kept her motivated was that she didn't want a family to be without their dog for Christmas.

When Mama got her into a corner, she started yipping and squealing. Mama felt badly, but knew that she could help the dog. She didn't make eye contact, she didn't stay tall (she crouched and inched forward), and she kept her hands behind her back.

Finally, this little dog fit itself inside a tiny hole (Probably 3 by 3 inches!) in the fence of someone else and kept barking from the safety of his side of the fence. Mama took her phone and called her brother. He brought down a bit of food and that still wasn't enough to get the dog. After about ten minutes, Mama headed back up. She couldn't do anything else fur this puppy...

When she got home, she got a new idea. Annie! Yes! Me! Mama knew that I could help out this puppy better then she could!

She put a leash on me and brought me down to the back fence line of the house and after fifteen minutes, this puppy had gotten half of her body out, but she always slunk back in for some reason or other. Mama took me and ran up to the house. She furgot food!

After getting a raw hot dog, (Don't tell the dachshund that's what it was!) she came back down. She walked me into the clearing where the house was and the dachshund was on the path. She was running back to the fence line, but Mama made a shriek noise forcing the dachshund to turn. She tossed a piece of hot dog and the puppy ate it. After about five more minutes, she'd grabbed the puppy's collar.

This dog wasn't happy about being held by the collar and being sniffed intensely by Annie, so she snarled and barked angrily. Mama let go and leured her in again. It took a while, but soon Mama got the puppy by the collar. Instantly, the puppy rolled over exposing it's stomach. Mama didn't know if this was submissive, or if she just wanted to get her belly rubbed, but it was like magic. Mama rubbed her belly and she instantly loved Mama.

Mama had her brother take me home and bring back the leash. She still needed to find this puppy's owner and she had a Christmas Eve party in just minutes, so she needed to hurry!

Mama asked some kids that were in a different cul-de-sac and then she noticed in the distance a mother, father, and two kids running around their property frantically. She was about 50 feet away, so she had to yell, "Excuse me, is this your dog?" The woman stopped and looked. She squinted her eyes and then raised two thumbs up, "That's our dog!" The kids were thrilled and Mama felt good. The dog's name was either Lucy or Lacey, but Mama couldn't tell. All she knew is that the dog was happy and that the kids were too.

Now, Mama has to say something. Here you go, Mama:

Okay, so that little dog had a BAD attitude! We have friends with a dachshund and her name is Princess. Let it be known, that I've trained and handled many dachshunds, and I will not voluntarilly adopt one! Sorry all dachshund owners, but I respect you for putting up with that all the time! BOL! Dachshunds are way too vocal fur us!

So I mentioned in the previous email that Annie has officially learned Sit Pretty. I've just GOT to say- it is SOOOO cute! I love seeing her propping herself up in such a cute way with her paws sticking out. Since she just learned it, she's also a little bit wobbly so she's shaking slightly. It's so cute!

Yes, my goal was to learn it by tomorrow, but I'm here telling you that I KNOW it already! Whoo hoo!

Oh, I can't wait to get some pics of it! It still needs a little work, but we're getting there and going at a grrreat pace!

Now, I'll do Sit Pretty in the middle of the room without Mama holding me and I'll hold it for quite a few seconds. I love this new trick!

Here's my Repetition chart:

18 repetitions with back to the chair
LONG BREAK
4 repetitions with the back of the chair
5 repetitions with Mama holding me (no chair)
13 Repetitions on my own
10 Repetitions holding Sit Pretty for long periods of time.

SOOO pawsome! 50 Repetitions exactly! I'm good at exact numbers! Whoo hoo!

Thanks!

If you'll notice in my tricks box up top it says "Sit Pretty (Different then normal)" Well, it's not a real Sit Pretty. Mama and I are working Right Now on getting me to balance on my hind quarters. We're starting with me being able to lean on a couch behind me, but eventually we'll move me out into the open where there's no couches to lean on. I can't wait!

Saphira didn't tag me, but I thought this game looked fun so I'm posting it.

1. What do you like to get in your Christmas stocking?
Squeaky toys, stuffed toys, and maybe even some tennis balls! Oh! Training would be nice too! Can I get that in a stocking?

2. Have you seen Santa Paws this year?
Nope, but I'll be watching that fireplace on Christmas Eve like a hawk!

3. Do you like snow, and have you been in it?
I really love snow, but we get NONE here! We got some last year and got some weather people tricking us saying that there MIGHT be snow, but it hasn't happened... I hope it comes! It happened last year in January!

4. What do you want for Christmas?
I think some new tricks would be pawsome! I really would like 'em! I'd also like toys and stuff, some Mama time, some Rawhides, and some treats! They all are grrreat!

5. Have you ever posed in a picture with Santa Paws?
Actually, no.

Okay, I'll tag
Jet
Mya
and molly (no caps)

Mama's Heart Goes Out to 2 Specific Strays...

We live in North Carolina and we drove down just over the border to South Carolina to have dinner at a friend's house. We spent plenty over an hour there and it's almost an hour's drive back. We got up to leave at 10:30 and as we pulled out of the neighborhood, we spotted two dogs on the road. Even though this was ten thirty at night, there were still tons of cars driving by and we were rushed. We couldn't stop and help them...

There were two puppies- one black puppy and one white puppy with light brown spots. The black looked like a young black lab and the spotted looked like an oversized beagle with a long nose. Both dogs looked like sibolings due to their size and puppyhood, and they looked about 40 lbs. We found them licking the asphault for some carcass leftovers that were there. Mama wanted to stop sooo badly, but there was no place to pull over.

We know this is a long shot, but Dogster is HUGE! If anypup even slightly catches a glimps of what seems to be the puppies, we'd really like to know. They've got a special place in our hearts now. We took I85 pretty much till the end or off of exit 82. We'd love to hear ANYTHING! Thanks so much!

I'm a Grrreat Helper!

Well, something that you might not know about Mama is that she's closterphobic. Today, Mama had to move her bed. She likes to keep it in the corner of her room, but we have relatives coming to our house for Christmas and two people will be sleeping in Mama's bed which means having it in the corner wouldn't be fun fur them.

Before Mama moved it, she had to get the stuff out from under it. It's a queen sized bed and she has two rolling boxes that she keeps under it. Sorry Mama, can't help you with those!

Well, after Mama got those out, she noticed that here was stuff under the bed that needed to get out. A sock, pink tennis balls, pencils, and a few pens. Mama, you should be clean! Anyway, Mama's too scared to go under there and get her stuff out, so she asked me to help.

At first I didn't get it. I'd go under the bed fur Mama, but when she said "Get it" I didn't 'get it' or understand what she meant. It was another learning experience and Mama grabbed a pink tennis ball, a sock, and some turkey breast and after teaching me to fetch the pink ball and the sock with only one repetition of each, Mama tested me in getting stuff that wasn't being thrown.

I scored with flying colors and brought EVERYTHING out! Whoo hoo! Mama says, "Thanks, Annie, fur being my helper!"

In 20 Minutes...

In 20 minutes I learned another new trick Other Way. It's spinning in the oposite direction! Now, Mama was curious as to how many repetitions it would take to complete the learning cycle of this trick and counted. Here's the list:

13 Repetitions till I understood.
10 Repetitions till I did it immediately
8 more Repetitions till I learned it
9 more Repetitions till I could designate Other Way from Spin.

Aren't I so smart? In twenty minutes after 40 Repetitions, I learned the trick Other Way. I'm SUCH a good girl!
