I've done my Research on Cesar Millan!

Here's an article from http://www.contactmusic.com/new/xmlfeed.nsf/story/dog-whispe rer-sued-over-animal-cruelty-claims_05_05_2006

Read through the whole thing!!!

CESAR MILLAN, the host of hit National Geographic Channel series THE DOG WHISPERER, is being sued over claims a dog was left bruised and bleeding at his pet clinic. Producer FLODY SUAREZ alleges his Labrador GATOR was nearly choked by a collar and forced to run on a treadmill at Millan's Los Angeles-based Dog Psychology Centre, resulting in painful injuries. Suarez claims medical costs have so far reached $25,000 (GBP13,500). He has filed suit for breach of contract, fraud, animal cruelty and intentional infliction of emotional distress. According to legal papers filed at the Los Angeles Superior Court, Gator had to be rushed to a vet an hour after being dropped off at Cesar Millan's Dog Psychology Centre. The dog was reportedly "bleeding from his mouth and nose, in an oxygen tent gasping for breath with severe bruising to his back inner thighs." The Dog Psychology Centre was unavailable to comment and a spokesman for the National Geographic Channel said it had not been served with a lawsuit.

Mama's Cesar Millan Opinion (read previous entry of Cesar)

January 29th 2010 7:02 pm
[ Leave A Comment | 2 people already have ]

Here is Mama's thoughts placed out bluntly... She isn't doing anything to harm his motivation, but this is more like thoughtful criticism (might have just made something up...)

Point #1: We are totally against the shock collar training methods as well as the choke chain methods. Both do damage to the dogs' neck in some way (People say to put the shock collar on your bicept and see how it feels, but the reality is that the neck is much softer and tender, especially on dogs!). In the second video link of the previous entry, there's a video clip on YouTube of Cesar treating a dominant dog (in all the wrong ways) using a choke chain. In this clip, Cesar Milan claims the dogs is calmer and/or relaxed towards himself after he has finished working with it. Actually, the dog is almost unconscious due to asphyxiation after being strangled. It's a scary thought that people think this is okay.

Point #2: Why do Cesar's methods seem so effective? -- The "Pack Leader" method has many successful ways about it. Always treating yourself as the leader of the pack and the more important party is important, but the "Pack Leader" method leaves out all love, affection, and positive reinforcement. If a dog isn't properly reinforced for the behavior, doing the right thing doesn't seem proper to the dog. While Cesar is a professional at this method and his dogs do respond well, it's not something tha tpeople can learn and perfect from just watching the show which brings people to do the wrong things.

Point #3: What does Cesar do in the show that you DON'T see? -- In the first link, there's a dog that's "red zone" against cats. The problem is, Cesar doesn't outwardly say that he's using the shock collar. He hides the transmitter in his pocket and when the dog has it's spaz attack, it's really being extremely shocked (once the dog hides it's head under the chair to try to escape from the collar!). This aggressive use of training could easily be overrun by positive reinforcement any day (the dog goes and tries to bite it's owner as an after-effect from the shock!). Why doesn't Cesar show the shock collar? Is he ashamed of it?

Point #4: In that episode, what did Cesar do to try to get the dog comfortable around the cat? He puts the cat in a crate and "psycologically" works with the dog. He brings the cat closer (as if that helps!), gets the cat all riled up, and causes anxiety and aggression from both animals. The cat attacks the owner in this episode, and so does the dog. Cesar eventually has the dog ignore the cat... why? Because the dog considers the cat a bad thing. It can't run from the cat (leash), it can't hide (open room), it can't leave it alone or show affection (cat is riled up and aggressive), and it can't get the motivation of affection because "pack leaders rarely give affection!" That totally messes up the phsycological stand point!!! Positive reinforcement would train the dog that the cat is a good thing other then vice versa...

Point #5: Cesar's way of the Choke Chain -- Cesar is sure to keep the choke chain at the very top of the neck- the most sensative part. Does it hurt the dog? Yes. Could it choke them? Yes. If you put it on, could you breath properly? no... especially if you're pulling away from it with all your might. In a dog's mind when all else fails, you retreat and regroup yourself for the fight. Dogs need space, time, positive reinforcement, repetition, and love to pull through training.

With these five points, do you see my dilemmas with simply chokes, shocks, and just these two episodes that are on YouTube? I highly DO NOT recommend Cesar's methods. There's another way: Victoria Stilwell. Look her up and learn more about Positive Reinforcement. Mama and I will fill you in on any questions, so feel free to ask.

Thanks.

Cesar Millan Abusive?

I got this from my dogster furrend Jet. Jet got it from Minister Misty:

Minister Misty has noticed the SAVING BRUCE group members that Cesar Millan pretty much abuses dogs with, let's just say-a shock. Check out the video now:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GPvr8tQhJY4

In that video, he hides the shock collar and in the end, the dog hides it's head under the couch. These are the things you DON'T see about Cesar Millan!

You can also check out this video to see how he treats dominant dogs:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2eSERTmOrpk&feature= related

It turns out, the dog was unconscious or going into shock from being strangled!

Jet has made a group that goes for Victoria Stilwell, a humane dog trainer. Please join!

DO NOT SUPPORT DOG ABUSER AND SHOCK COLLAR USER, CESAR MILLAN!

The Average Puppy Compared to the Average Toddler/Teenager:

So, you having problems with puppy training? Is it taking too long? Well, why are you complaining that your puppie's THAT old and not house-trained! Does your toddler understand that it needs to go to the bathroom outside or in the toilet at 3 or 4 months old?!

How many times do you have to tell a teenager to get up and get ready fur school, work, or something else? How many times do you need to tell your dog? Do you even need to tell your dog?

Are you complaining that your dog runs away when it's let off the leash? Well, how many times have you had to chase that toddler around the playground?

How many times does your teenager yell back at you if something doesn't go his/her way? Your dog doesn't talk back or complain...

You're getting frusterated because your dog will run and chase the closest squirrel around and doesn't listen to you? Well, those are instincts. How many times do you tell the little toddler over there that they can't eat the stuff they find off the ground. Do they listen?

The average teenager will spend more time with expensive electronics such as iPods, TV's, laptops and computers, and cell phones. Just give your dog that squeaky toy or tennis ball and they'll be busy fur hours.

************************************************** *****************

With that said, are you still going to complain about how BAD your dog is?

Take it from a professional dog trainer... compared to the average toddler or the average teenager, dogs shouldn't even be a challenge.

Are you READY to get a new dog? Are you sure?

Mama's had a run-in with a Dogster dog here. Here's the explanation of why Mama is a bit nervous:

One of their dogs went missing over a year ago

One of their dogs just out of the blue disappeared from Dogster and the owner said nothing of it. I automatically fear the worst-- I've heard that this dog wasn't greatly behaved and I fear euthanasia or the pound.

Next, they go out and get a new dog

Are you ready? What's happened with your previous dogs? Have you done the research on your new breed? Are you ready to train that dog and give it some effort? Will you walk the dog? Will multiple dogs be right for your family?

Please don't be like the anonymous puppy-family...

Uh oh!

Oliver, the neighbor's kitty who attacks my kitty was...... IN MY FRONT LAWN!

Guess what I had to do? BARK AT HIM! Yes, bark bark bark! Mama allowed me to bark at him a few times so that I could warn her. At that point she said, "Thank you, that's enough," but no it wasn't! I kept going!

In the end, Mama had to take me down and roll me to my side to show me that she was in charge and that it was okay. It worked. The kitty went bye-bye because of my barking and I was only a LITTLE BIT of a bad dog!

My uh oh is done!

First, I learned Peek-a-boo which is to pop through Mama's legs and look up at her. That took ten repetitions.

Then I learned to roll up in a blanket! It still needs some work, but after 40 repetitions I nabbed that one too!

This has been a grrrreat Christmas! I'm loving my treats, training, and squeaky toys!

We Need Prayer...

[ Leave A Comment | 1 person already has ]

Not us, Goldie. Goldie is our neighbor's 12 year old Golden Retriever/Lab/Chow Chow mix and she's decreasing in health. Yesterday, she couldn't walk on one of her front legs and she has had vometing problems. Also, there has been a lump found on her left side and it seems to be cancer. The family has had her for over 10 years and we would love it if pups would pray that she lives through Christmas. That is how bad it is...
