MY BARKDAY IS COMING!

March 18th 2010 7:04 am

Mama is SOOO excited! My barkday is on TUESDAY of THIS week! Can't wait till it comes!

Mama won't be here fur my barkday but she's already arranged many things such as my toys that I'm going to get, my treats, and the hour time span that she'll have just talking on the phone with ME!

Mama is going on a three week trip to New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania and there's no way she could get out of going on it so I'm stuck here, BOL!

She'll be flying so there's no way to take me, but we'll talk on the phone and keep in contact. Mama keeps telling me that she'll be going "bye-bye" but I don't quite get it since she hasn't left yet... She says she's going bye-bye tomorrow at lunch time so from then on, Dogsters, we will have limited time on Dogster!

I'm so happy fur Mama but I'll miss her TERRIBLY so if you pups could pray fur me I'll probably be sitting by my window and eating minimal amounts fur the whole time... Please keep this lil' Puggle in your thoughts and prayers!

Mama's "Training" Opinion in our Very Own Dog Blog

We read an article recently in Dogster's Dog Blog that was surprisingly enough about a bulldog that literally ate the bumper and two tires off of four cars including two police cars and Maria Goodavage, the blogger, asked fur the opinion of puppies and parents out there why a dog would do that.

Mama and I gave out opinion on the blog. Copy and paste this into your browser and read the article as well as the comments at the bottom if you'd like and don't furget to keep checking out the Dog Blog!

What we've been doing in our training sessions lately...

Mama knows that it's very important on walks for the dog to be completely focused on its master and to listen to commands throughout everything. Fur the past few days, Mama and I have gone on our walks to a little place in our neighborhood with no one in it but the birdys and animal holes and we've been working on me looking at Mama all the time during my walk. That doesn't mean I can't watch where I'm going or that I can't look away fur a second but it means that half of the time I'm looking at her even if its just a glance.

Being a Puggle my nose is VERY strong! In this little fielded and wooded area there are many animal holes and many birdies flying around. I would love to chase them sooooo badly or even to just watch them or sniff them but I'm learning that Mama is MUCH more important and I need to stay focused on her.

Most of the time on the walks I'll just look at Mama the whole time and stand slightly in front of her. I know she wouldn't step into any obstacles and I trust her enough to not even watch where I'm going but just watch her. Mama doesn't encourage this because sometimes even she doesn't see potential dangers to me but it is touching that there's that much trust envolved in our relationship.

During our walk yesterday there were TONS of birdies and I wanted to get them sooo badly walking down the path to the fielded and wooded area but I ignored them and only looked at them a few times but I LEFT THEM BE!!! I'm a very proud puppy!

A Puggle's Underdog to Wonderdog!

We love watching the show Underdog to Wonderdog and there was a recent one about a Puggle. Both the Pug and Beagle breeds are prone to becoming overweight and this Puggle weight a few ounces from 40 pounds instead of what it should have weighed... 20-25 pounds.

Mama and I found out that if your dog needs to lose weight some things that will help is obviously walks, portion control (look it up... size matters with portion control), puppy push-ups (sit, down, sit, down... etc.), fetching, and spins in both directions to strengthen the abdomen muscles.

A shocking a bit less then 50% of dogs suffer with some form of being overweight and if your dog is overweight the kindest thing you can do is help it become healthy.

Compliments are always nice! :D

Mama and I sent a video of me doing some of my tricks to a professional dog trainer in Norway that handles much of the BIGGER things that aren't like the home-problem/behavior solutions Mama handles. She sent him a video of my cute tricks and got only compliments. Things like great praising, perfect amount of excitement in the tone of voice, and that there is really a connection with us.

Needless to say, a big professional says THUMBS UP! That works! Business has been slow lately. The cold weather brings clients down fur some reason so if you have any questions about training or such, please don't hesitate to paw mail! Mama feels like she hasn't been training enough lately so we'd be glad to help out!

In loving Memory: Daddy

While I don't agree with Cesar Millan's training methods, I do know how hard it is to lose a dog. Here is a memorial that I got in an email from a friend... A memorial to Daddy:

Cesar Millan, all his family and friends, his staff and volunteers, and dog lovers all around the world today will mourn the passing of one of the most loyal, trusting, well-balanced, and influential pit bull ambassadors the world has ever known. Daddy, Cesar's longtime friend and partner in canine rehabilitation, died peacefully surrounded by family on Friday the 19th of February. He was sixteen years old.

He lived each day of those sixteen years happy and fulfilled as Cesar's right-hand-"man," helping to shape the behavior of entire generations of dogs by showing them the way to balance. He stood as champion for calm-submissive pit bulls everywhere, and was instrumental in helping to repair their image as violent, savage, uncontrollable beasts. He successfully battled cancer and weathered chemotherapy, and even got the opportunity to present at the 56th Annual Creative Arts Emmy Awards!

His name is now added to that honorable roster of dogs gone by whose influence is still felt today, and which includes some of Cesar's beloved childhood heroes: "Rin-Tin-Tin." "Lassie." ... "Daddy."

He has been immortalized by Dog Whisperer fans in all mediums, from painting, to photographs, to charcoal drawings and papier-mâché sculpture. And, of course, he lives on in his work, reflected in the balance and calm-submission of his protégé Junior, the countless animals to whom he was a positive role model, and in the hearts and minds of everyone who knew him as a calm, sweet, and mellow example of a widely misunderstood breed.

In Loving Memory.

Whoo hoo! I just wanted to tell all Dogster dogs out there that it's ME! Yes, I'm diary pick of the day! It was so funny, though, because I came on Dogster (after reading the email) and Saphira sent me a message that I was diary pick of the day! She knew before I did, BOL! Thanks, Saphira!

Well, I guess the tennis ball article did the trick! BOL! Mama also wanted to announce to everypaw that my bond with the kitty has also grown stronger. I'm very happy. :D We get along a big better now and we can be extremely close to each other. Sometimes when we're both in a hurry our heads will bump and the kitty won't even care!

Thanks Dogster!

Eight Productice Ways to Use a Tennis Ball:

As you pups may know, Mama and I LOVE tennis balls! We use them all the time for games and now fur more productive things. ;) I hope you like the list!

By the paw, try to buy pink tennis balls if your dog loves them! The money used to buy them goes to finding a cure fur breast cancer!!!

EIGHT PRODUCTIVE WAYS TO USE A TENNIS BALL:

1. Bulb Remover
Use half of a ball to remove a warm light bulb from its socket.
How to Safely Cut a Tennis Ball
• Draw a line around the diameter or the place you want to cut.
• For extra stability, secure the tennis ball in a clamp.
• Wearing sturdy work gloves, pierce the ball with an X-Acto knife or a box cutter, then slide with steady pressure. (Dead balls give a bit more and are easier to cut.)
2. Comforter Fluffer
Speed up the drying time of bulky bedding by tossing a couple of tennis balls in the load.
3. Arm Weights
Cut small slits into two balls. Fill with pennies or sand, then seal with tape or superglue. Take the weights on your next power walk.
4. Spa Tool
Roll sore feet over tennis balls for a soothing massage.
5. Jar Opener
Conquer lids by using the rubber lining of a cut ball to aid your grip.
6. Makeshift Safe
Cut a slit in a tennis ball, then place valuables (jewelry, cash, etc.) inside. Just keep it far away from Fido.
7. Reader Tip: Floor Guards
Cut an X into four balls and slip the feet of an ironing board inside.
(Ruth Amundson, Westby, Wisconsin)
8. Reader Tip: Painkiller
Lie down. Place a tied sock containing two balls under the spot where your head and neck meet. Tuck your chin and gently nod your head up and down.
(Meg Junker, Dayton, Ohio)

Hope you liked it!

Yes, it's Mama's Barkday, and on Groundhog's day? I had an entry about this last year... There's a day of the year fur groundhogs and not fur dogs? I don't get it, but there's a lot of things I don't get...

Anyway, Mama has plans she can't break today and tonight, so she's all mine from about 12:00- 7:00 tonight! Whoo hoo! I'll be having tons of fun today with Mama, so I'll bet I won't be online too much.

Puggle loves and Happy Barkday, MAMA!
