Mama's Day!

Mama was at a sort of outdoorsy place today and guess what, there was a PUGGLE there and it WASN'T ME! BOL!

This Puggle had to have been only a few months old. He was a good size but there was no maturity what so ever so Mama asked and was right at nine months old. This Puggle's name was Jed and he was a tawny Puggle, not black like me. Mama describes him in one word as ADORABLE! I bet I could top him, though, BOL!

Mama was about to walk over and talk to the owner, engage in a conversation, etc... when Jed pulled backwards and slipped his collar. Oh no! Any Puggle owner who has had an untrained Puggle let off leash in a public area knows that this is TROUBLE! He didn't get far till he got to Mama. (Since Mama has experience in catching Ralphie when he's loose now, this job wasn't too hard, BOL!)

The owners were very appreciative and they started having a conversation about Puggles right there and then. Mama showed pictures of me and my underbite with her phone and they got into talking about training. Jed's owners were asking types of questions like, "Do Puggles just grow out of this active and destructive stage?" Answer, "No, they definitely have to be trained." Question, "Where did you train Annie?" Answer, "Actually, I did it myself. She is well behaved, trained, and knows over 100 tricks and commands."

Dropped jaw, hee hee!

Mama continued talking fur a long time with the owner and they had healthy conversations about training and disciplines as well as other doggy-things. :D Mama is very happy about the outcome and, who knows, we may have just picked up another client!

All this to say, any dog, any breed is trainable. That was one of the core parts of the conversation. Jed's owner didn't think it could be done! She was in over her head and couldn't handle him. Mama was able to point her in a good direction and now I have a new doggy friend that I just might meet very soon!

I LOVED sniffing Mama as she came home! Her pants, hands, shirt, ANYTHING it all smelled like JED! I will now recognize him when I see him. :D

For those of you pups who don't know, I was one of the five winners of the Toothy Dog contest at the dog blog. I won a package by Pedigree with dental stuff and we got it in today!

The package includes a doggy tooth brush and tooth paste, a dental chews treats bag, and a squeaky toy soccer ball! :D

Mama went outside to work with Ralphie and when she came in I had eaten every single one of the treats I could get my nose into! Mama left them too low down and didn't even tell me to leave them. It was open just enough fur me to get my nose in it... bad me... there are about four left so my loss! :P

I'm very happy to have won it... Thanks, Dogster!

My LONG Day!

So this morning I went to some baseball fields with my family... we found out when we got there that it was a NO DOGS ALLOWED place, BOL! Mama went back and forth from the stands to the car. She had to leave the windows open and bring me water and stuff... not fun but it was worth it fur what came next!

That took about an hour and a half and then we went to a park. There were woods and we planned on walking the trails but then we found a DOG PARK and guess what we did! I was put in with the big doggies (because there were no small ones around...) in a very large area.

I'll admit, this was a new thing, and I was confused. With so much space and such big dogs (Dobermans, Great Dane, German Shepherd, TONS of Huskies...) I was scared! I've never been to a dog park before! I know, that's a crime, but I didn't know what to do with myself since this was a first. The big Great Dane came over and tried to play with me but I just went in between Mama's legs...

In the beginning Mama had to walk with me. I stayed right by her, not even straying too far for a scent or a marked territory and I would NOT play with the dogs. They'd all come and sniff me and I just let them do it submissively instead of playing.

After a while, a bit before we had to go a little four week old Boxer puppy came named Alex. He was ADORABLE and once I saw him the lights went on and I ran and played with him! He was a bit smaller then me so that helped. I was so excited I jumped on his owner who was wearing white shorts... whoops! He didn't mind, though, BOL!

I loved playing with Alex and there were a few other dogs here and there. I was off-leash almost the whole time but in the end I didn't want to leave so I wasn't coming when called (I was doing a grrreat job earlier! Mama could just tap her thigh and I'd be right there but I always know when Mama needs us to leave... I wasn't exactly cooperative but I didn't run away from Mama, I just didn't come so she wasn't upset with me.

After that experience we did the walking trails... beautiful day, beautiful breeze, beautiful wooded area and all around a great and LONG day! Whoo hoo!

I'm so thankful that I got the experience of the dog park! I was scared and looked to Mama fur guidance but Mama is so proud that I went off and played on my own. This is something brand new so we'll have to see about trying it again REALLY soon!

Yes, I was sooo excited! I didn't see it coming! When Mama left I was two and now she's coming back and I'm THREE years old! Whoo hoo!

I definitely act older. BOL!

When I saw her I ran right over to her, jumped on her, licked her face, and whined a little bit. Fluttered Mama's heart...

Oh, Boy!

Apparently 17.62% of dog owners have adopted from the puppy mills and would do it again according to Dogster stats! Let me assure all dog owners out there that supporting the cruelty of pets and breeding them in unhealthy ways will NOT make it stop and adopting the adorable puppy in the pet store just sends a portion of the money to the owner that torchers the mother by having her breed litter after litter till she dies or can't breed anymore.

The best thing you can do is say NO to the puppy that will be sick fur the rest of its life. Not that we can't help those sick dogs but it comes down to the suffering aspect. It's nicer to let them go and get a dog from a reputable breeder or a rescue.

P.S.- let me also say that most dog owners that unknowingly adopt from puppy mills and get an unhealthy puppy will put the dog in a shelter to be euthanized shortly after... think about that cycle....

Yes, it's very true! Even the little things like not needing to take me fur a walk in the cool mornings or not bumping into me as she walks through the house are driving her insane... Just a little bit longer!

Mama's pretty sure I miss her, but she's positive that she misses me!

HAPPY BARKDAY ANNIE! I'm so proud of my little girl! It seems like it was yesterday when you would run away, chew the house, and be all-around destructive but now you are a BEAUTIFUL, WELL-TRAINED Puggle to be PROUD of and yes, I am VERY proud of you! Thank-you fur the snuggles when I needed them and the kisses and cuddles at the times that made my day. I love you Annie!

Mama's Encounter with a 150 pound Rottweiler!!!!

She tells me that this was a fun and CRAZY experience! The dog was HUGE and in a tiny 3 room apartment in Jersey City while Mama was at a birthday party fur an old friend of hers. This living space was VERY small and there were about ten 18 year old boys in there. Mama went in just to help out with the dog!

When you're 150 pounds of pure muscle, many of the 6.4 boys are scared of you... but the Rottie was scared too! He paced around the tiny living-space nervously and because Mama showed authority in the house he walked over to her. Here are the anxiety body-signals that he showed:

Redness in the eye
Whining
Licking his lips
Pacing
Uncertainty on eating
and lickng Mama's arms up and down!

Mama described it as like having a shower on her arms! His tongue was HUGE and covered her easily!

Well, all this to say that the over six foot men that were in the apartment were terrified of the dog while little Mama went in there weighing in less then the dog but she still showed comfort fur the dog in its distress. Even big dogs like Taz, the Rottweiler, can have anxiety in situations like this too. Never underestimate how you can help! Mama weighs less then Taz and is MUCH smaller but he'd still go to her fur comfort.
