Uh oh!

All of the sudden, I hear Mama say "Bye-bye!" and it's VERY last minute! She's going to New Jersey and she didn't even warn me... Oh, well it's okay. She'll be back in time to train Sammy. :D

Guess what!

Mama is trying something new in about a week! For a while she knew about it, but she waited until it was definite so I could tell Dogster. We are going to have a doggy Dachshund named Sam stay at our house for training for a week around the time of fourth of July. It's very exciting! Sam will love our creek and the trail by our house! And I fur one will LOVE to have a buddy puppy around!

Mama is planning on teaching Sam basic commands and manners while she is here (or anything her owner asks specifically). This is going to be a grrreat experience that I'm sure we'll want to do again! We'll keep Dogster posted as the time comes!

Mama's very strange Training Experience:

Mama had the strangest training experience yet... The dog she was working with--Holly, a small, 9 pound mutt of probably a Yorkie and JRT mix, was AFRAID of treats! She was literally a happy, go-lucky dog, but when you pulled out a treat or food reward she became overly fearful and overly submissive. Since she wasn't interested in any toys and praise wasn't enough for her, this made things difficult. We guess that her past has caused this. Her owners now are nice, Mama knows them well. But they adopted her from someone who found her as a stray and couldn't find the owner to reclaim her.

Anyway, that was our strange experience that Mama probably won't have again in a while! BOL!

Pet Zoom Info:

I saw a commercial on TV for the Pet Zoom not too long ago and to be honest, this device scared me. It's a pocket-sized device that when you push the button, it sends out a signal that keeps all pets away or supposedly tells them when they're doing something wrong. I wasn't sure if it actually was humane and to be honest I'm still not sure. The website says that it's a "pain-free ultrasonic signal that only dogs can hear", but how do we know that it's pain free? There's no way for us to tell and this works with many kinds of animals, not just dogs and cats.

Dogsters, Mama's going to look into the Pet Zoom but we do NOT recommend it and we ask that you not use it. We have said many times before that we don't recommend shock collars and Pet Zoom goes in the same category. If we find any websites describing it further, we'll post links to them right here. Either way, humane or not, there are MANY other ways to train and they're more effective and long-lasting then the Pet Zoom.

Another new trick!!! :D

Mama found a cane and the new trick is me putting my paw in the cane and keeping it there. Mama has to hold it at the top and balance it, mind you, but it still looks very cute!

She was also working with me on weaving through her legs FASTER since I did it fairly slowly. I can do it VERY quickly now!

There's a talent show at Mama's church soon... Do you think I could pull it off? I'm not sure... With all the lights and people... I don't know! Mama's seriously looking into it, though. There's limited ways to train for complete focus in something like that, so we'll just have to see if the director of the talent show thinks it's a good idea. It would be pawsitively fun if I could!

TWO MORE NEW TRICKS!!!

I guess Mama figured that she spent way too much time without training me. We've got four new tricks this week and counting! Mama just needs some hula-hoops that she'll get soon and we'll REALLY get started! :D

Well the two that we conquered today surprisingly quickly were 1: taking off Mama's socks. (don't worry, they were clean. BOL!) and 2: one that's complicated to explain. The command is "lets go" and Mama holds a suitcase at a slight tilt and I jump on and stay on as she pulls it. This one took a bit longer then expected because I was just afraid whenever it moved but in the end and after many repetitions I conquered my fear! :D Mama's so proud of me. If she can have hula hoops by tomorrow then we'll be in good shape. Can't wait!

Oh my GOODNESS!!! What happened to Dogster?

Well, this is quite strange. I was on earlier today, came on again in two or three hours and its THIS different! Well, I think its interesting but so far I've liked the other one better. I guess Mama and I'll just have to get use to it!

New Tricks to Add to the List!!!!

Alright, so the trick "Mount" has two meanings. #1 I could jump up and balance on Mama's knee. #2 I could jump on Mama's back and balance on it! They both have the same hand signal so it just depends on the way Mama is standing.

There's also a trick that Mama did NOT teach me. I did it on my own. Mama said, "Play Basketball!" and the basketball was right in front of me. I put my paws up on the ball and started to playfully nip at it. Mama never taught me to nip at it and it looks very cute so that's a new trick too! :D

Dog Blog Stuff:

There is an entry in the Dog Blog about a Pit Bull that bit two people, one a friend one a vet tech, and he was about to be put to sleep when his owners broke into the shelter and rescued him. Here's a link to the page:

It's an interesting story, read if if you have time as well as read the comments. There were some... less then dog lover people there... that posted about how a dog like that should be put to sleep. Mama put in her input and would like to post one of the (maybe smart remarks) things that Mama said in my diary:
