I Scared the Mailman...October 21st 2009 5:06 pm[ View A Comments (15) ]
...so he pepper-sprayed me. It wasn't my fault. The Mom takes Burt and I to the park every afternoon before she leaves for work. The park we go to now is about a mile from our house. So we drive in the Jeep. Usually the Mom unlocks the Jeep while we're still in the house then opens the screen door and we run right to it and hop in.
Oh Dixie! That's terrible! You were just doing your job...defending your castle! I hope your eyes are OK. Grrrrr...that mailman had NO right to make your mom sad! She is a great dog mom and does the very best for you and all dogs. Tell mom not to listen to him. He doesn't matter. Make sure you give your mom lots of kisses. That's what I do when I get mom in trouble. When I give her kisses when she's sad, she says "You are worth it buddy. I don't care what people say." They must be magic, healing kisses or something. Hugs to you and your mom. Ask for his name and work place and tell him he will be reported. Tell him you will NOT be lied about. If he refuses simply call the Supervisor and say you wish to make an appointment to make an OFFICIAL report. Dont take it from them... please DON'T. HUGSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS I did scare the bejeezes out of him... lucky he didn't mess his pants! I agree with Flicka dont take it.My Brother Magnum was maced just for being in the yard on a chain.I reported the mailman he got fired because he had several reports on his record. So please report it it may not be his first time. His attitude is enough of an indicator.Take Care of your Mom and yourself. Hope your eyes are ok...poor girl. Gosh what a friendly dog loving mailman you have:( Mom would of been p&^ssed at the mailman and probably be on the front page of the newspaper for telling off the mailman...all he had to do was say; hey lady will these dogs bite me? That could of been avoided and should of been used only if you and Burt were getting ready to bite...all doggies BARK when protecting their homes! Oh %$#&, this is a BAD thing to happen. The fact that the mailman sprayed you with pepper spray will most likely result in a report by him to the animal control department of your city. You might be labeled a dangerous dog. To add to your problems they might also decide to halt all future mail delivers to your home (they do have the right to do this). If you notice no mail delivery starting tomorrow, this is probably what happened. Many cities take all reports of dogs "incidents" quite seriously. Next time, stay away from the mailman. Here's a thought, how was the mailman able to get ahold of his peper spray so quickly? Does he carry it around in his hands when he comes up to your door? Just wondering.... I have a different view than my sister Coco Rose - want me to fly out there and bite him in the shims? The nerve spraying you in the eye with peper spray. Hope your mom is ok. There is nothing vicious about either of those dogs. AND... he was LYING about unleashed dogs being walked. Bottom line.. he was in this instance WAY out of line. I wouldnt hesitate to report HIM. From Dixie's Mom: thanks for the support. we had a mail lady today and the Mom had a nice conversation with her about the 93 yr old man down the block who recently passed. mail carriers in Chicago carry pepper spray attached to their belts, so he was able to grab it quickly. i don't believe Dixie would have bit him, but I am the first to admit that I was in the wrong. we have a leash law in Chicago and they should have been on leash even for that short walk down the steps to the car. What ticks me off is there are so many, many dogs in this neighborhood that are let out the front door to wander up and down the block UNATTENDED so they can defecate all over. and no, you can't call the police on them because the owners will retaliate. Life in the big city... I , of course, was smart. I froze and then ran back inside! Poor baby ! Did you know that policemen have to be sprayed with pepper spray so they will think about it before using it on someone. This mailman seems fast on the spraying and your humans were there. I find him no excuses. And making your mommy cry !!! This is the worse part, we are dogs and we are brave and can outcome evething. But our moms have a very tender heart when someone is mean to us. I send kisses to your mommy. Mwah! Mwah! XOXOXO That mailman was a Jerk! Maybe all the dogs are right about those guys. I think I'll start causing a bigger scene when he comes up my driveway from now on. Be happy he didn't taser you and your Momma! When people make my Momma cry I wish I wasn't such a big hearted, friendly dog! One thing we can do is... I stand behind 'em and I leave Ruby to bark at 'em and jump on 'em. Then they trip over me and we all laugh at their expense. Next time nip the mailman in the buds :) Hope your eyes are ok Dixie. So sorry that scardey pants mailman went right for his pepper spray instead of just trying to say Hi to you. He obviously knows nothing about dogs. With any luck you'll get to keep the nice mail lady and him and his spray will find another route. I'm so sorry you and your mom went through such an upsetting and stressful ordeal--not to mention your poor eyes. Mom's family dog Dodger was pepper sprayed when she was young by the mailman for basically doing the same thing. Mom's Dad even worked for the USPS at the time and had previously been a mail carrier, and even he was upset that the guy sprayed Dodger. He thought the guy was way too quick on the draw and they're really only supposed to use the spray as a last resort. Sounds like your mailman was a spray-first-ask-questions-later kind of guy too. Hugs and kisses to you and your mom! |
