Tonight was good night ...

Tonight felt good. It felt really good. For the first time in a long time, I was back to my old job as a DJ. My cousin Kyoto is the owner of the new Friends Cruise Line, and he hired me on as the ship's DJ. This weekend is our first cruise. We're on our way to London for a Jack the Ripper Tour on the 122nd Anniversary of the first murder (August 7, 1888 5o August 7, 2010). It looks to be a thrilling time.

Tonight, I played the songs and everyone danced. The world passes by all paired up, you know. Seems like everyone is a couple. I am not. I sat there playing CDs with my two oldest children, while my baby, Jimmy, slept peacefully in the playroom.

The world can be a lonely place ... even when you're in the middle of a crowd. Two of the ladies (my brother's fiance Kayelani and my cousin's fiancee Brooke) asked me to dance with them each for a song. "Mercy Dances", I call them. I must have looked pathetic in my new role as Single Dad or something. But still, it was fun and I was glad that they asked. Looking around at all those couples and knowing that I was in a room filled with so much love, it sort of made me sad at first. But my sadness turned to thanksgiving before the night was over. I watched as my sisters, brothers, nieces and nephews all looked at their partners with so much love in their eyes. And I was truly thankful for what they have. I would not wish loneliness on any of them, and I find myself just finding a little happiness for myself in THEIR happiness.

And so as I go to bed tonight and kiss my Babies little heads, I pray the Prayer of Serenity just as I always do ...

"God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change,
courage to change the things I can,
and wisdom to know the difference."

Amen, and Good Night!
