Snuggling and eating...it doesnt matter what, as long as its edible!
Being a typical herding dog, she doesnt like dogs in her face
Shes not as crazy about toys as Heidi...she'll play with anything if shes in the mood
Anything!! Raw is the best, though...lamb, rabbit, venison, pheasant/quail, fish
Anywhere in the woods where she can be off leash and explore. Because shes so athletic, no where is off limits. I think she likes the Basin the best!
Sneeze, dead dog! spin, turn, wave
Although Im not exactly proud of how Shelby came into my life, I am thankful each day that I have her with me. Here is the true story of how she came to me: I saw her in the petstore. I know. I had Heidi for about 6 months, and she was a dream. I certainly wasnt looking for another dog! But I was shopping by myself in the mall one day and just happened to walk into the little shop of horrors. I saw her alone in a cage and she looked in really bad shape. I asked the teenage clerk if I could hold her. She put me in one of those little rooms and then brought the little girl to me. It was immediately apparent that she was in worse shape than I had thought. She was missing the top half of one ear, her tail was bent in such ways that it looked like it had been broken, and she had no muscle tone. Her coat was so dull and gray that I thought she was going to grow up to be a tri factored sable. I was so horrififed, I went home and immediately called sheltie rescue. Of course they couldnt do anything for her, because she would need to be "purchased" to be rescued. I told my mom, and she saw how upset I was. Under some duress from a friend of hers (who had multiple dogs) she went to go look at the puppy. She bought Shelby that night. Shelby was on "mark-down" because of her deformities. I was torn between being happy that this puppy was going to have a chance at a good life, but being so worried that I now had to share my heart, love and time with someone other than Heidi. I cried and worried that I had made the wrong decision.
Luckily, I was very VERY wrong. Heidi and Shelby get along GREAT and play outside every day. Shelby is incredibly smart and EXTREMELY willing to please. She is more sensitive, in different ways than Heidi and is much more snuggly and calm than Heidi. They are very different, but together they make the perfect dog. I love Shelby with all my heart, and she has shown me that you always have enough love and time to go around!
Shelby is a super athlletic girl, but would much rather spend her time with my mom and I snuggled up on the couch. She is very protective of our property and "puffs up" when she thinks that someone is too close to our fence. Once I tell her its ok, she loves to say hello. She hates when we watch football, but loves when we eat. She would eat a whole head of lettuce if we left her alone with it long enough! She is so smart, and would really do anything asked of her out of pure love and willingness to please. And of course she loves her big sister!
