Arrival Story:
A friend of mine was helping a low-income family get their cats/dogs spayed. Tonka had been left at their house a year ago by a homeless friend, and the only care the family gave Tonka was to feed her and let her hang out in the yard. Tonka was brought to me to try to find a more appropriate home in which she can spend her last years.

Tonka is a 9yr old FS bulldog mix and weighs 50lbs. She has been updated on vaccines, dewormed, treated for fleas, and tested for heartworm. She is crate trained, housebroken, and just a goofy girl! When Tonka had a bad bout of diarrhea the middle of May, her abdominal x-rays showed that she has extreme arthritic changes to her spine. However, she does not show any signs of pain, so it is hard to say how much the arthritis will affect her in the future. For now, Tonka is on daily arthritis medication as well as joint and skin supplements. After seeing her x-rays, I am recommending she get no more exercise than a short daily walk and that she live in a home with few or no stairs/steps. Tonka had a long-untreated flea allergy when she came here, and it does appear that most of that hair on her back will not return. In spite of all the strikes against her, Tonka is looking for someone who will let her snooze away her remaining time in their house. In return, she will provide all the slobber and kisses you could want. She has been well-behaved with the other dogs in my house, but it took 2-3 weeks for her to stop trying to mount the other dogs, so if her adopter has a dog, it should be a mellow one, and preferably male. Tonka is wonderful with cats. I hesitate to send her to a home with children because I don't know how much longer she will live, but it will only be for a few more years at most.
